Story
Prior to making her final pledge as a druid, the young seer Sibeal visits the island of Inis Eala, where the Sight leads her to Felix, a survivor of a Norse shipwreck who has no memory of his past. As the island's healers struggle to keep Felix alive, he and Sibeal form a natural bond. But Sibeal's vocation is her true calling, and she must choose between the two things that tug at her soul - her spirituality and a chance at love....

Not my favorite, but still pretty good

I agree with some of the other reviewers that the story spends a tremendous amount of time building up to a momentous voyage for relatively little payoff. By the time that the voyage is finally underway, the book is nearly finished, and it seems that things are wrapped up rather quickly in comparison to the many months that preceded. After the triumph of the previous installment in the series, this one was a bit of a disappointment for me.
Kudos to the narrator for distinguishing between Irish and Norse accents, but I admit that it started to grate on me a bit. I can't precisely pinpoint what annoyed me so much about it, but I think it has more to do with the harsh, nasally tone to Felix's Norse accent verses the clear, smooth tone of Sibeal's. I got to where I really didn't want the narration to switch to Felix's P.O.V... I won't be re-listening to the audible version of this book, but rather re-reading the physical book on my shelf should I desire to do so. Overall, though, the story is still a solid addition to the series, so I can't give it a poor rating just because I'm picky about how things sound to my ear.

Possibly my favorite in the series (thus far)

Choosing a favorite book in a series is like trying to pick a favorite child, but since reading/listening to this installment in the Sevenwaters series, I've been called to re-read it over and over. Absolutely masterful storytelling that you'd expect from the incomparable Juliet Mariller, and the wonderful narration of Rosalyn Landor makes this a joy to hear. (I've noticed that of the narrators ascribed to this series, I prefer Rosalyn!) Can't praise this one highly enough!

Story
Magic is fading... and the ways of Man are driving the Old Ones to the West, beyond the ken of humankind. The ancient groves are being destroyed, and if nothing is done, Ireland will lose its essential mystic core. The prophecies of long ago have foretold a way to prevent this horror, and it is the Sevenwaters clan that the spirits of Eire look to for salvation. They are a family bound into the lifeblood of the land, and their promise to preserve the magic has been the cause of great joy to them... as well as great sorrow.

Decidedly NOT the Brightest Gem in the Series

By the time I reached the end, I could finally say that I somewhat enjoyed the story. However, I did not enjoy this installment in the Sevenwaters Series nearly as much as I enjoyed the first two. Honestly, the hard copy will remain on my book shelf as a tribute to my OCD nature (the need to have a completed, sequential series), but I doubt that I will be re-reading it anytime soon.
When it comes to strong heroines, the main character can't hold a candle to her predecessors. Although she shows some determination and strength of will at times, she spends the majority of the story acting incredibly dense. The women in the previous books fought harder to achieve what they wanted and were far less likely to trust evil or take it at face value. There weren't plot twists in this book as much as Fainne finally realizing what the reader knew/suspected all along.
Another issue I have with Fainne, is that she spends most of the book chastising the man who is supposed to be her best friend and love interest. In the scenes where she is trying to secure his well being, it makes sense. But, even outside of grave danger, she is still incredibly shrew-ish at times.
As far as the narration goes, that was very well done for the most part, which is why I gave the performance 4 stars. However, as other reviewers have previously mentioned, whoever did the editing could have done it much more seamlessly. The scenes which were spliced were blatantly obvious. It didn't bother me so much during the day time, but it was very distracting at night time as I was winding down to sleep. Go along for a few minutes with a certain tone/pitch/volume and then it changes drastically for one sentence out of context, and then resumes as it was before --- very choppy.
