Great story, annoying narration

I loved this classic spy story. Maggie is smart, tough and original. But the reader’s “sing-song”, inconsistent voice was very distracting. I’m unsure if I’ll listen to another book in this series.

Story
Private Detective Cormoran Strike is visiting his family in Cornwall when he is approached by a woman asking for help finding her mother, Margot Bamborough - who went missing in mysterious circumstances in 1974. Strike has never tackled a cold case before, let alone one 40 years old. But despite the slim chance of success, he is intrigued and takes it on; adding to the long list of cases that he and his partner in the agency, Robin Ellacott, are currently working on.

Strong characters and vivid scene setting makes this book utterly exciting. It’s very clever how the chapters are named after and written from the different characters’ point of view. I enjoyed it very much.

Convicted serial killer Benjamin Fisher has finally offered to lead San Bernardino detective Daniel Ellis to the isolated graves of his victims. One catch: he'll only do it if FBI profiler Reni Fisher, his estranged daughter, accompanies them. As hard as it is to exhume her traumatic childhood, Reni can’t say no. She still feels complicit in her father’s crimes.
