Story
At twenty-four, Cody has already lost hope of having a life of his own. All his time is spent playing nurse to a dying, spiteful stepfather and maid to his bully half-brother. His only escapes are playing his favorite online fantasy game, Black Oasis, and talking to the strange, unearthly presence under his bed that may or may not actually exist. Everything changes when his nightly visitor, who introduces himself as Nor, starts talking back. As their connection deepens, Nor invites Cody into the surreal world existing just beyond his nightmares.

The best part of this book is the narration.

The book is way too long with very little story. I believe this has a lot of potential but the author seems to be fixated on the sexual relationships between the characters, So much so that there is very little world building and not really having an actual plot. I hope the next book will be better.

Story
Gage Chandler is descended from kings. That’s what his mother always told him. Years later, he is a true crime writer, with one grisly success—and a movie adaptation—to his name, along with a series of subsequent less notable efforts. But now he is being offered the chance for the big break: to move into the house where a pair of briefly notorious murders occurred, apparently the work of disaffected teens during the Satanic Panic of the 1980s.

Cannot comprehend the story
Reviewed: 11-12-22
This may seem strange but one third into this book and I just can't understand the story. Individual bits I understand but how they are tied together seem very flimsy and characterization is hard to develop because the characters change story to story. I guess the author is trying to write in a modern, creative manner but it's too much for an "old" girl like myself. One of the rare DNFs but I simply have to return this book.

Story
Two days before the start of her junior year, 17-year-old Janelle Tenner is hit by a pickup truck and killed - as in blinding light, scenes of her life flashing before her, and then nothing. Except the next thing she knows, she's opening her eyes to find Ben Michaels, a loner from her high school whom Janelle has never talked to, leaning over her. And even though it isn't possible, she knows - with every fiber of her being - that Ben has somehow brought her back to life.

A good story except for the ending
Reviewed: 09-06-12
Would you listen to Unraveling again? Why?
Not really, problem is I hated the ending.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Unraveling?
Saying this would mean spoiling the story!
What does Katie Schorr bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Emotions I guess, by listening to the change in the narrator's tone as she portrays different characters, my emotions also get affected, making the story more exciting.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Getting home may be way harder and more disastrous than you can imagine.
Any additional comments?
I don't really like the main characters: Janelle and Ben, I find them a bit selfish at times. On the contrary, I like Alex and Alijah, the side characters as these too are really people who can become your bff.

Story
Daughter of a cold, controlling mother and an anonymous donor, studious, obedient Elizabeth Fitch finally let loose one night, drinking too much at a nightclub and allowing a strange man’s seductive Russian accent to lure her to a house on Lake Shore Drive. Twelve years later, the woman now known as Abigail Lowery lives alone on the outskirts of a small town in the Ozarks.

It would have been better had it been shorter

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Sort of, I like the characters and the atmosphere of the book but it's way longer than necessary and so little is happening at times it makes me struggle to finish this book.
What did you like best about this story?
The characters. Both Abigail and Brooks are awesome, not to mention the beautiful ending, though highly predictable.
Which character – as performed by Julia Whelan – was your favorite?
Abigail. Her intelligence, logical way of thinking and her innocence makes her one of my favorite heroines.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Nope, definitely not! This book is so ridiculously long I listened to it for weeks (though only listening when jogging).

Story
Carl Mørck used to be one of Denmark’s best homicide detectives. Then a hail of bullets destroyed the lives of two fellow cops, and Carl - who didn’t draw his weapon - blames himself. So a promotion is the last thing he expects. But Department Q is a department of one, and Carl’s got only a stack of cold cases for company. His colleagues snicker, but Carl may have the last laugh, because one file keeps nagging at him: A liberal politician vanished five years earlier and is presumed dead. But she isn’t dead...yet.

Where does The Keeper of Lost Causes rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Extremely grim but the plot is pretty good.
What other book might you compare The Keeper of Lost Causes to and why?
Don't like to compare
What about Erik Davies’s performance did you like?
Pretty good.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Definitely the ending.
Any additional comments?
Getting through this book has been difficult for me because of the description of the painful experiences of some of the characters. You feel like you are falling into a hole and just when you think there is a glimpse of hope, things just get worse.
