Story
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

Story
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Story
A sorcerous cataclysm has hit the Range, the final defensive line between the republic and the immortal Deep Kings. Tormenting red rains sweep the land, new monstrosities feed on fear in the darkness, and the power of the Nameless, the gods who protect the republic, lies broken. The Blackwing captains who serve them are being picked off one by one, and even immortals have learned what it means to die. Meanwhile, the Deep Kings have only grown stronger, and they are poised to deliver a blow that will finally end the war.

Ditto my reviews of Blackwing and Ravencry. The trilogy flowed smoothly and developed at a good pace. I love that Major Nenn was not left out! Colin Mace did an amazing portrayal of all the characters and his voice is so easy to listen to. Never thought I'd be one, but honestly I think I've become a bit of a fan girl 🤷

Story
Rose is the youngest of seven children, meant to replace her dead sister. Maybe because of that, she’s never really fit in. She’s always felt different, out of place, a restless wanderer in a family of homebodies. So when an enormous white bear mysteriously shows up and asks her to come away with him - in exchange for health and prosperity for her ailing family - she readily agrees. Rose travels on the bear’s broad back to a distant and empty castle, where she is nightly joined by a mysterious stranger.

Started strong...

The story started strong and flowed nicely. About halfway through, the story became...forced? It felt like the author took Frozen, Beauty and the Beast and the Little Mermaid and tried to mash them into one story parts of the mashup worked briefly but 'tween parts did not transition well. I would have liked it more if it had a smoother story development.

Let me start with Colin Mace. Amazing performance! I was thoroughly entertained! I'm not the most critical reader, but I have a hard time finding stories that keep my attention. This series grabbed my attention quickly and I'm listening to it over again for the third time because I want to stay in the story. I found myself experiencing a wide range of emotions, surprised that I teared up a few times, and laughed quite a bit at the numerous one-liners. If you are a fan of shows like GOT or The Witcher, I highly recommend this series.

What’s in a label? Are we the product of our upbringing or do we have a natural propensity towards good or evil? The eternal question of nature vs nurture is at the centre of Dr Diane Buckley’s world. A talented freelance forensic psychologist who has never quite found the key to engaging with people on a casual level, she is drafted in to examine a grisly murder – a body found in a children’s playground.

Suspenseful, would have liked a little more character building of Dr. Buckley's kids. Nice twist at the end.
