Being a pianist, I wanted to know Lang Lang's experience as a pianist. What I heard (received) was void of musical experience. Instead, it was about winning or not winning. There was no sense of concern/accomplishment artistically. Thus, it seems to have been written for teenagers who are perhaps less interested in what it is like to play/practice/compete than how nice/mean people were, and whether our protagonist won/lost. Often, performances were skipped entirely, going from preparation to results, without a word of experience on the bench, at the keys.

Silly and original

I have not heard many books like this one, told as if by a teenager who has more respect for muscles than wisdom, for anger than equanimity. It was fun enough to hear, but one must be able to endure the profanity which makes up about 4% of the prose. I struggled with the name dropping and the lack of respect for the truth, such as lying to Grant Hill for the Foot Locker advertisement . Having grown up in northern Vermont, I find the weather language somewhat absurd. “It was actually frozen!”, speaking of a lake in Connecticut. It sounds as if he is a southerner, just moved north. “The mountains of Connecticut”. Oh boy. The story seems to be light and fun much more than useful and inspiring.
