Story
Aza is far from beautiful. With pale skin and blood-red lips (not to mention ungainly size), she is seen as odd, at best. But Aza does have one blessing: a voice of astonishing beauty. In Ayortha, where singing is the main mode of communication, this gift is no small thing, and soon Aza finds herself rising at court. But, as she will discover, unexpected good fortune can also bring unexpected danger.

Story
This first volume of the Earthsea Cycle is an adventure story, a Quest, a tale of a proud, incautious boy who meddles too early with the Dark. It is a pure fantasy telling about a real thing: a boy coming into his power and his manhood...coming of age.

Wonderful story - atrocious narration
Reviewed: 11-14-03
I suffered through the narrator for the sake of the story. It is a truly well written story, but do yourself a favor and get it in print. Having said that, I'm off to look up the next book in the series - in audible. Although I could practically feel the narrator spitting on me, I still will suffer through it to get the next chapter in Sparrowhawk's journey.

Here is a world where men and dragons coexist amid political intrigue and dark magic, where the uneasy balance of power between the two is on the verge of becoming undone, threatening to unleash waves of destruction that will pit humans against humans as well as dragons against men for the domination of the world. Humanity's very survival is at risk.

The story was true to the mark Weis has set. The suspense of waiting for the next one is going to kill me!
