Story
Salo’s queen has finally accepted his desire to be a mystic despite taboos concerning men’s use of magic. But her acceptance is not support; it is strategy. Under a disguise of the queen’s making, Salo enters Jungle City as a pilgrim to the Red Temple, only to find a magical barrier barring his entrance. Left at the mercy of the warring political factions that run the city, Salo faces a series of obstacles wrought by an unseen hand, knowing he cannot return home without completing his pilgrimage. But Isa, King of the Saire clan, has her own plans for Salo.

Brava but also how dare you hurt me like this

Wtf did I just read…. Unlike the first book that was filled with a whole lot of action and bloodshed, this book focused on pushing the political intrigue that came as result from the events in book 1. There was still enough action and bloodshed to appease my heart, but I have a few people on my hit list for next book.
What I love about this series is that you get into the POV of all of the players of the game, the good and the evil and watch as they plot and eventually come head to head for an epic battle whether politics, spears, or magic are the weapon of choice.
This book did a great job of not falling victim to the second book curse. The ending had me tearing up of anger, frustration, and sadness. I love Rwizi’s prose and this world that he has built and cultivated. The way he lured us in along with the characters and although some betrayals could be seen from miles away others and the extent of it hurt me real bad. I’m not ready to start another 600 page journey right now, but I cannot wait to finish out this series
