Story
Agent Isaac Steele has problems. He spends all his splibs on drink and drugs. He has some deep-seated and very much unresolved issues with his parents. And his robotic partner at Greatest Britain’s Department of Clarification, Dr Timothy Stephens, is ruled more by his heart than his hard drive. But all these issues take a back seat when Isaac stumbles upon a case involving the most sensitive information in the cosmos - a Never File, inaccessible to all except those with the highest clearance. He is expressly forbidden to involve himself. So naturally he does.

I have always loved Agatha Christie and would have listened to this whichever way. For me the quintessential Poirot was David Suchet and I did have hesitation about Peter Dinklage. But the voice acting was so good that I am now a fan!! I hope we will get more such adaptations!

I got a bit frustrated with the story as it was going so slowly at one stage. But the end was satisfying as well as heartbreaking.

So many little details but all concluded with solutions! How these all weaved into the murder is amazing. The observation of human behaviour is also interesting and moving. Wonderfully well-written and I wish there were lots more from this author.

Jo told him the phone call had been about a woman who wanted to have her husband declared dead. Smith thought for a moment and then said, 'Hmm. There must be a few million women in this country who feel like that. I take it her husband's been missing for a while and she's decided it's time to move on. In the absence of a body, which is always a nuisance, she wants Diver and Diver to confirm there's no proof he's alive. And I've told Jason a dozen times I'm not getting involved in anything matrimonial. I have enough trouble sorting out my own relationships.'

It’s hard to believe but the DC Smith series is still very good even though he’s now retired. The interesting cases and the challenges faced by an investigator with no official police status gives the series a fresh perspective. What I’ve always loved about the series are the thoughtful analyses. Gildart Jackson is amazing and when I first started on Audibles I was never sure whether I was listening to 10 people or 1 person! He can do so many types of accents and voices. All in all, I’m so glad that DC is still going strong and I hope Peter Grainger continues to give us stories on him.
