Story
His name, they tell him, is William Monk, and he is a London police detective. But the accident that felled him has left him with only half a life; his memory and his entire past have vanished. As he tries to hide the truth, Monk returns to work and is assigned to investigate the brutal murder of a Crimean War hero and man about town. Which makes Monk’s efforts doubly difficult, since he’s forgotten his professional skills along with everything else.

Ridiculous!
Reviewed: 02-12-21
This is the most ridiculous book I've read in a long time. Who ever loses his memory, tries to hide it, and relies on other people to unwittingly tell you about yourself without knowing that you can't remember them or anything about who you are? I listened all the way till the end hoping it would improve but it never did. I would not recommend it.

Story
The scene of this entertaining story is laid in a charming English village. The plot centres round Miss Barbara Buncle, a maiden lady who was obliged to write a book because – as she naively explained – her dividends were so poor. Unfortunately, Miss Buncle had no imagination, so she wrote about her friends – quite kindly and truthfully, of course, for she was a benevolent and veracious soul.

Too funny! I loved the story line, and the narrator did a good job of portraying the characters.
