Story
In this first volume of his memoirs, then-newly-qualified vet James Herriot arrives in the small Yorkshire village of Darrowby, and he has no idea what to expect. How will he get on with his new boss? The local farmers? And what will the animals think? This program is filled with hilarious and touching tales of the unpredictable Siegfried Farnon, his charming student brother Tristan, and Herriot's first encounters with a beautiful girl named Helen.

This presentation brings to life the hard yet rewarding life of a country veterinarian - small and large animals, as the title says.
For me, it is reminiscent of my dad's early years in the 1940's - 50's.
Highly recommended for those who love all creatures great and small...

Story
The writer, naturalist, and artist David Carroll illuminates the ecology and life histories of the tree frogs, hawks, foxes, and the increasingly rare wood and spotted turtles he has been tracking for decades with the precision and passion that won him a 2006 MacArthur "genius" award. Following the Water is the intensely-observed chronicle of Carroll’s annual wetlands immersion from the joy of the first turtle sighting in March to the gorgeously described, vibrant trilling of tree frogs in late May.

I loved his book, "The Year of The Turtle". This is his sequel and nearly its equal.
I admit that Carroll's narration is wanting - a brilliant writer, not an actor.
AUDIBLE -- Please, PLEASE add "The Year of The Turtle"!
Very grateful for this gift -

Story
As a child growing up in a family of cantadoras (keepers of the old stories) Clarissa Pinkola Estes learned first hand how a story told at bedtime can soothe away the troubles of the day and prepare the way for another night's dreams to follow. Now a beloved cantadora herself, Estes shares this treasured family tradition with you on Bedtime Stories, her own special collection of tales to relax and ease you to sleep.

Fell asleep... Great relaxation narrative... I strongly recommend this for insomniacs and Ambien withdrawal.
I also advise slowing the speed for better results.

Story
Narrator Dan Stevens ( Downton Abbey) presents an uncanny performance of Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel, an epic battle between man and monster at its greatest literary pitch. In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris, and horror.

this was one of my favorite books since high school. Stevens brings to life the Innocence, horror, and regret that is Frankenstein. tremendously entertaining, engrossing.
Recommend slowing down the narrative to savor the period language.

Story
This is the poignant and compelling story of perhaps the most naturally gifted musical genius of all time. Copiously illustrated with examples of his music, it tells of Mozart's extraordinary childhood travelling the courts of Europe, and of how, after a brief period of fame in Vienna, his fortunes declined until his early death and last resting place in a pauper's grave.

Story
Based on the true story of Alexander Selkirk, who survived alone for almost five years on an uninhabited island off the coast of Chile, The Mysterious Island is considered by many to be Jules Verne’s masterpiece. “Wide-eyed mid-nineteenth-century humanistic optimism in a breezy, blissfully readable translation by Stump” (Kirkus Reviews), here is the enthralling tale of five men and a dog who land in a balloon on a faraway, fantastic island of bewildering goings-on and their struggle to survive....
