I laughed and cried, frequently within the same review. Seriously, he made me care about the Indy 500. That's talent.

Story
A best-selling expert on education shows how to make the school system work for your child. How many parents have a child struggling in school? The answer: a great many. This audiobook is an informed, practical resource for such parents. As the author of the classic book on home-schooling, The Well-Trained Mind, Susan Wise Bauer knows how children learn and how schools work. Her advice here is comprehensive and anecdotal, including material drawn from experience.

Very informative!

While much of the practical information didn't apply to my situation (11 y/o ASD child working on a "2nd grade" level) there were some great suggestions on how to reframe my educational predispositions. Focusing on what elements are important in educating a healthy happy child, and therefore adult.

Story
Stranger in a Strange Land is the epic saga of an earthling, Valentine Michael Smith, born and educated on Mars, who arrives on our planet with “psi” powers—telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition, telekinesis, teleportation, pyrolysis, and the ability to take control of the minds of others—and complete innocence regarding the mores of man. After his tutelage under a surrogate father figure, Valentine begins his transformation into a kind of messiah.

Timeless themes, but the details suffer
Reviewed: 09-12-19
You can tell this was written in the 70s. The presentation of "high tech" items was amusing. The themes of god and human nature held up ok.

Story
Something scary is happening to boys today. From kindergarten to college, they are less resilient and less ambitious than they were a mere 20 years ago. Fully one-third of men ages 22 to 34 are still living at home with their parents, about a 100 percent increase in the past 20 years. Boys nationwide are increasingly dropping out of school; fewer are going to college. Family physician and research psychologist Dr. Leonard Sax presents practical solutions.

Interesting as a topic survey

Definitely brings up many topics I want to research further. Bottom line is – there are many factors that affect our boys that need to be considered. Understanding gender differences may not solve everything, but might help in certain (aspects of) cases. I am looking forward to “reading” other works by this author.

GOOD - but not great

This is an audio of a lecture/ presentation, so some of the audience questions are difficult for me to hear. I did find some of the information useful and will try to find a hard copy of this author’s work (library or used) to see how the book(s) compare to the audio.
