Story
A breakneck race against time…and an implacable enemy. An anonymous young woman murdered in a run-down hotel, all identifying characteristics dissolved by acid. A father publicly beheaded in the blistering heat of a Saudi Arabian public square. A notorious Syrian biotech expert found eyeless in a Damascus junkyard. Smoldering human remains on a remote mountainside in Afghanistan. A flawless plot to commit an appalling crime against humanity. One path links them all, and only one man can make the journey. Pilgrim.

Boring

I bought this after reading so many rave reviews. Did I get a different book? It’s slow, predictable, and uses every used up “spy novel” cliche. Don’t waste your time.

Jack Aubrey is back in London after a successful mission. On the advice of an acquaintance he uses the time to invest some of his prize money. However when the investments link him to London's powerful criminal element and land him in jail it looks as if he has lost his post captaincy and the H.M.S. Surprise. It is once again up to ship's surgeon and covert agent Stephen Maturin to rescue his hapless friend.

Aubrey finally jumped the shark
Reviewed: 06-04-23
I’ve loved the series but the characters became too predictable and unrealistic. Aubrey too much of a gullible simpleton and Maturin too much of a caricature. It wasn’t fun anymore. Not buying any more of these

Story
After a long and eventful life, Allan Karlsson ends up in a nursing home, believing it to be his last stop. The only problem is that he's still in good health, and in one day, he turns 100. A big celebration is in the works, but Allan really isn't interested (and he'd like a bit more control over his vodka consumption). So he decides to escape. He climbs out the window in his slippers and embarks on a hilarious and entirely unexpected journey, involving, among other surprises, a suitcase stuffed with cash.

Forrest Gump ripoff

For me it started to get tiresome with all the famous encounters. Plus we’re supposed to forget that he stole a bunch of money and killed a bunch of people.

Story
Henry never realized he was special. Sure, he’s an engineer who served his country, but when the virus hit, he found himself alone in a nearly empty world. That’s the key, though: nearly empty. There’s no one left who has the technical know-how to make the world run again...except for Henry. For humanity to survive, he will have to rebuild society out of the motley crew of survivors. It might be impossible, but at the same time, Henry has always loved a challenge.

About what you’d expect
Reviewed: 07-04-22
First, the narration of the main character wears thin very quickly. Trying way too hard to sound like some cowboy or Sam Elliott knockoff. Then the story itself as he seems not the least bit bothered by waking up to a world where nearly everyone died, then conveniently meets everyone he would need to build a new community, all with special skills and not completely crazy. I finished the book but won’t bother with the series

With the same suppleness, energy, and range of voices that won their translation of The Brothers Karamazov the PEN/Book-of-the-Month Club Prize, Pevear and Volokhonsky offer a brilliant translation of Dostoevsky's classic novel that presents a clear insight into this astounding psychological thriller. This audio edition of Crime and Punishment is expressively brought to life by Peter Batchelor.

The narrator is very hard to understand. I tried several times to start this book but never got more than 20 minutes and had to shut it off. Very frustrating
