Story
Many famed music producers are known for a particular sound that has its day. Rick Rubin is known for something else: creating a space where artists of all different genres and traditions can home in on who they really are and what they really offer. He has made a practice of helping people transcend their self-imposed expectations in order to reconnect with a state of innocence from which the surprising becomes inevitable. Over the years, he has learned that being an artist isn’t about your specific output, it’s about your relationship to the world.

I didn’t learn anything about Rick Rubin. There were no stories of the fabulous were keystone. A few musical references were not artist he was involved with. I listened on 2.5 speed, but still found it tedious to listen to.

Story
At the end of the 1980s, when the Cold War ended, many, including former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, believed that democracy had triumphed politically once and for all. Yet nearly 30 years later, the direction of history no longer seems certain. A repressive and destructive force has begun to reemerge on the global stage - sweeping across Europe, parts of Asia, and the United States - that to Albright, looks very much like fascism.

This is basically a magazine article stretched out to the length of a podcast but charged as if it’s a book. If this were free, I wouldn’t really mind. It was interesting enough. But for an audible credit this was not a high value endeavor.

The unapologetic intensity with which Emily Brontë wrote this story ensures that it will forever be considered one of the greatest works of English literature. A passionate tale of a chaotic and often violent love, Wuthering Heights transcends your average romance and, with its Gothic undertones, takes the listener on a journey through one man's lustful hunt for revenge.

I listened and cringed. I was prepared for a sappy, manor house story of romance. What transpired was a confusing, crass generational tale that left me searching for the meaning. After reading the Wikipedia entry, it is clear that the inner struggle I had with this novel has been a subject of debate for 150 years.
