Good story, lots of crunch, some handwaving, and sex

Title pretty much sums it up. The author knew where he wanted this story to go, and isn't going to let inconvenient things like consequences, technical limitations, or common sense get in his way. It's like TOS Star Trek, if you ignore the handwavy technobabble, it's a good story.

The voice acting is about the only thing that saves this book. the actors are top notch, and perform masterfully, the author...didn't.

This story wanders from scene to scene like a drunken sailor during an earthquake.

Scalzi + Wheaton has always equaled a must listen for me, This was everything I expected and more. Brilliant writing, realistic characters, hilarious dialogue, and absurd situations.

If you've never read a Scalzi book, read this one.

If you've read any of his other books, you don't need me to tell you that you should read this one, but I will give you one more reason why you should, since it came a a very welcome surprise to me. He's finally broken his habit of ending every piece of dialogue with "he said."

I know it seems like such a little thing to get worked up about, but it means the world to me. I can finally listen to his wonderfully witty dialogue without my brain getting sidetracked railing against the repetition.

I have lost count of the number of times I have read this book. and I STILL learn something new every time I read it. Every. Single. Time.

Most books I can only read once as the second reading bores me. Some I reread because a new book has come out and I want to make sure I remember things correctly. Some I reread because they are comforting. No other book consistently provides me with new information, new ideas, and new stories. Only this one.

I am glad this was included in my membership, cause I'd have hated to waste a credit on it.

I don't mind erotica or harem stories, but this book is just garbage.

I used to love Dean's books. In the 90s he was a master of creating paranormal suspense from purely natural means. In the 00s he started to tinge more books with supernatural elements, but the thrills still came from his ability to write believable people and breathtakingly real psychosis. This story falls well flat of that.

This story feels so ungrounded in reality that I can't connect with it. I didn't have that problem with Season 1, so I'm assuming it's a problem with this particular episode. It felt like I had no understanding of the villan, he was generic and bland. I think the author was trying so hard not to offend anyone's politics that he couldn't write a believable politician villan.

lovely setup for a superhero story. I love the various arcs and how they (may) interact. This is a coming of age story, a mid-life crisis story, a mystery story, a journalistic thriller, and an origin story, all wrapped up in a superhero story. I hope the payoffs are worth the buildup.

Audio Note: The woman who narrates the Journalist's story is incapable of doing an Irish accent, which is an important character quirk of one of that story's minor characters. instead of Irish, it comes out as some wierd blend of Jamacan and South Georgian/Alabaman African American. it's wierd and threw me off for a bit until I got used to it.

Guy sounds like he's reading a bedtime story to a toddler. This clashes with the vocabulary level of the story and its subject matter.
