Excellent material, engaging presentation.

Engaging and interesting throughout

Robert Garland is one of my favourite presenters on the Great Courses. He’s siper knowledgeable, is clearly enthusiastic about his job, and manages to keep the material interesting and engaging for the whole course.
This course covers an absolutely massive amount of human history and spanned continents and cultures and dynasties. A fascinating listen from beginning to end.
My only complaint is that he focused so much on Greek and Roman history, it felt like the hundreds of other kingdoms and empires were not spoken about as much.

Story
Most children go through a dinosaur phase. Learning all the tongue-twisting names, picking favourites based on ferocity, armour, or sheer size. For many kids this love of ‘terrible lizards’ fizzles out at some point between starting and leaving primary school. All those fancy names slowly forgotten, no longer any need for a favourite. For all those child dino fanatics who didn’t grow up to become paleontologists, dinosaurs seem like something out of mythology. They are dragons, pictures in books, abstract, other, extinct.

Absolutely fantastic exploration of prehistoric life
Reviewed: 07-26-20
Ben Garrod has stitched together a wonderful story of how dinosaurs came to be, thrived, and died out in this really entertaining audiobook. He has a clever and engaging way of introducing new subject matter, exploring it as deeply as a layman could manage, and segue into a new topic without missing a beat. I highly, highly recommend this book for anyone with an even passing interest in dinosaurs and science.

Story
In Everthing Is F*cked, Mark Manson turns his gaze from the inevitable flaws within each individual self to the endless calamities taking place in the world around us. Drawing from the pool of psychological research on these topics, as well as the timeless wisdom of philosophers such as Plato, Nietzsche, and Tom Waits, he dissects religion and politics and the uncomfortable ways they have come to resemble one another. He looks at our relationships with money, entertainment, and the internet, and how too much of a good thing can psychologically eat us alive.

A very different sort of journey

While far more philosophical and abstract than his last book, I found this book to be incredibly interesting in the way Mark Manson presented it. The anecdotes, analogies and stories were very engaging and insightful, and I really enjoyed listening. His reading could have been better, though.

A masterful set of lectures

The second I saw this audiobook I knew I had to get it, and it’s totally paid off. The stories put forth are amazingly detailed and engrossing, made all the more delightful by the narrator’s clear, lively voice. A must-have, especially for history buffs.
