Legends and Lampposts
Reviewed: 09-08-22
I did a new thing…
I’ve been advised that I should try listening to audiobooks to reduce my stress (aka, road rage) during my commute through the 7th circle of Dante’s hell (aka, South Florida drivers and traffic) to get my son back / forth to school. Typically 45 minutes there and 45 minutes back home to work, on a “good day”.
Of course, my first thought was to head back to the enchanting world of one of my all-time favorite books, Winter’s Myths by @gagegreenwood.
The audiobook experience took me a few minutes to relax into…
At first, I didn’t like anyone dictating to me the inflection, tone and general voice of a character.
Then I found myself lost in the story, so lost that I missed my exit.
It was wonderful to see my old friends, the lampposts, emerging from familiar territory; terrorizing and consuming the night, as well as those brave enough to venture out into it …
Even in a short story, this author’s depth of emotional character development and inherent ability to weave together something completely magical shines through the dark of the menacing creatures of night.
I am praying to Kevin Bacon that maybe l will see a little more of this little spitfire of a protagonist, Mira, in future books…
Until then, I’ll try to stay inside and make up some Molotov Cocktails of my own in case any conspicuous light bearing electrical poles happen to come my way.
Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
