Don't hesitate, it's worth it.
This volume clarified much of the language used in Psalm 23 for me, translating my perspective of it as a figurative poem to a narrative of down-to-earth reality.
The narrator's warm, relaxed pace and touch of humor makes the author come alive, as if seated in your own living room.
A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23 not only encouraged me, it opened a more personable view of the reality that the Lord IS *my* Shepherd.
He is caring for my here and now needs, He will soothe my irritations, and He is looking out for me when others butt heads over the best "grazing ground".
I was challenged too. Do I persist in slaking my thirsts, my ways? Drinking water ridden with disease? Am I a Ms. GadAbout, always pushing the boundaries that are set for my protection and in my best interest?
This book has been instrumental in opening my heart to view others with more compassion; they also have a Shepherd, and He is seeking to restore them to a perfect relationship with Himself.

Narrator was fine; but this book does not have the quality of humor as McManus' other books. My husband and I were put off. I'd return this.

Story
In the early years of our country, a poor school teacher, Justin Morgan, receives a horse and her tiny colt in payment for some work. He wishes he had been given money instead. Hoping that he might sell both horses for a fair price, he asks his student, Joel, to break in the colt. To his surprise, young Joel soon discovers that this small, brown creature has special abilities: "Bub" can pull more than a team of oxen, and he can run faster than a racehorse.

Our family has loved Justin Morgan for years. Horse lover and friend alike will laugh and feel their hearts throb with the gritty pluck of the first of the prized Morgan Horses in this well spun tale. A great reader brings the Early American characters to life with picturesque inflections.
