Entertaining STORY about drug hustler turned CJ reform hustler.

I agree with Mr Santos on need for CJ and sentencing reform however disagree with several of his premises and simplistic solutions to a very complicated topic. Although entertaining, much of it is redundant. This book could easily be condensed in half. I usually prefer audiobooks in which authors narrate their own books but this is an exception. Unlike another reviewer, I did not find the frequent mistakes charming but rather distracting and sloppy. Mr Santos ends the book with a cliffhanger about post-prison lawsuit in which he loses all of his savings which he segues into a sales pitch for his next book LOL. If you want an entertaining story, it's not a total waste of time. If you are looking for substance, look elsewhere.

Story
Seventeen years old and facing nearly 30 years behind bars, Jarrett Adams sought to figure out the why behind his fate. Sustained by his mother and aunts who brought him back from the edge of despair through letters of prayer and encouragement, Adams became obsessed with our legal system in all its damaged glory. After studying how his constitutional rights to effective counsel had been violated, he solicited the help of the Wisconsin Innocence Project, an organization that exonerates the wrongfully convicted, and won his release after nearly 10 years in prison.

I was transfixed from beginning to end. As i sit here writing this review through tears of joy for Jarret, I also get choked up thinking of the countless others for whom justice will never be within reach. This book has inspired.me to learn more about the issue and find a way to make a difference in my community.

Story
In 2014, Theranos founder and CEO Elizabeth Holmes was widely seen as the next Steve Jobs: a brilliant Stanford dropout whose startup “unicorn” promised to revolutionize the medical industry with its breakthrough device, which performed the whole range of laboratory tests from a single drop of blood. Backed by investors such as Larry Ellison and Tim Draper, Theranos sold shares in a fundraising round that valued the company at more than $9 billion, putting Holmes’s worth at an estimated $4.5 billion.

Brilliant con-job!

This is the 1st audio book that I've listened to in it's entirety despite the monotonous and sometimes "corny" narration. When quoting Elizabeth Homes the male narrator spoke in a RIDICULOUS "Mrs. Doubtfire-esque/ I guess this is how women are supposed to sound" voice. What. The. Hell ?. I digress, the story was so engrossing that even the bad narration didn't deter me from listening for hours at a time. John Carreyrou should win an award for his investigative journalism and having the backbone to expose Goliath's such as Theranos. I suspect that without John's reporting the whistle blowers wouldn't have had much of an impact and the Theranos con-artists would still be bamboozling patients. I hope John writes a sequel after more of the sordid details are revealed in civil and criminal trials. In my opinion, Elizabeth and Sunny shouldn't be the only ones held accountable. There were scores of Theranos co-conspirators, complicit board members and investors who sold their souls for what they hoped was going to be the mother of all jackpots. Elizabeth didn't "fool" these people - they were in on the con!
