The book wants to have its cake and eat it too. It posits that negative stereotypes about aging are false, but then asserts positive stereotypes about what older people have to offer, as true. Older people can either be stereotyped or they can not. It’s not ok just because it happens to be a kind stereotype. Perhaps she means to say that stereotypes tend to be negative towards older folks and we should also recognize that each individual older person has different gifts to offer.
