Story
Born in Cuba after her mother Yemaya’s adventures in the New World, Oya has inherited otherworldly powers from her Yoruba Orisha lineage. While Yemaya is known for her healing abilities, Oya’s influence over the storm proves to be destructive, posing a threat to her mother and the island’s safety. Sent to New Orleans to study under Marie Laveau, the Queen of Voodoo, Oya begins a journey across the still young America, encountering a myriad of historical figures, including Mary Ellen Pleasant, Jesse James, Lew Hing, and more.

Elegant Story Telling

This story transports you to another time and place where you experience culture on a very spiritual level. I felt woven into the tapestry of Oya’s life and have a whole new respect for storms. It gives you the humanity of the Orisha making their divinity so relatable.

Story
A mix of memoir, spiritual teachings, and practices from Afro American traditions, Jambalaya offers a fascinating introduction to the world of nature-based spirituality, goddess worship, and rituals from the African diaspora. More relevant today than it was 36 years ago, the wisdom of Jambalaya reconnects us to the natural and spiritual world, and the centuries-old traditions of African ancestors, whose voices echo through time, guiding us and blending with our own.

Delightfully Rich & Vibrant

I am so elated that you decided to narrate this work. I had the pleasure of listening for a book club selection with The Wellness Community and what a jewel Jambalaya was. This was like sitting at the kitchen table of a dear aunt while having a piping hot bowl of her
Jambalaya prepared with so much love, life & history. Of course while sipping white rum.
Peace & abundant blessings to you. Thank you for sharing your journey.
