The monsters!
Reviewed: 04-19-24
I adored this book, & the narration! It’s truly inspiring, & comforting. The confort comes from learning that we all seem to struggle with the same monsters, in some capacity. The inspiration obviously comes from learning that there are ways to not only conquer these monsters, but to make them work along side me.
10 out of 10 definitely recommend!
Great job Kevin Hart! Every time I listen to, or read one of your books, I respect you so much more, & you also help me to respect myself more as well! Keep it up ❤️

Story
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

This book is absolutely…something!💜
I will never again think of this incredible woman as “Sam from iCarly” despite how much I adored the show, & her character.
This is a must read/listen for ANYONE who has or is suffering from an eating disorder and/or childhood “expectations” which caused lifelong trauma.
Although painful, & scarily relatable, I am so grateful I purchased & dove into this book. I couldn’t stop listening to the author’s voice as she strolled me gracefully through her reality, & realization.
Definitely recommend for ALL who r still on the journey of self discovery. 100%
I love that Jennette was able to open herself like she does in this book, & I will forever send both empathetic & healing “vibes” straight to the actress that I knew so little about, but have admired most of my adult life.

Story
Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent more than three decades working with survivors. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust.

Truly helpful in understanding trauma. Mind blowing statistics, studies, processes, & results! Can help understand what to ask for, if seeking a therapist to help recover from trauma, & a lifetime of hiding from personal traumatic experiences.

Story
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

I really enjoyed the whole book! The narration was delicate, & convincing. Wish I would’ve come across this book a few yrs ago, it definitely would have been helpful in my fight w/severe depression. Even a few yrs late, though it’s been a wonderful intake. Thank you Matt Haig for bringing us Nora’s worlds, & thank you Carey Mulligan for breathing life into Nora w/your lovely voice!
