Story
Rick Atkinson recounts the first 21 months of America’s violent war for independence. From the battles at Lexington and Concord in spring 1775 to those at Trenton and Princeton in winter 1777, American militiamen and then the ragged Continental Army take on the world’s most formidable fighting force. Full of riveting details and untold stories, The British Are Coming is a tale of heroes and knaves, of sacrifice and blunder, of redemption and profound suffering. Rick Atkinson has given stirring new life to the first act of our country’s creation drama.

More than a book about the American War for zindependence

This read was very captivating even though I knew how the story would end. There are plenty of names of Americans who are know to most of us. The genius of this writing is that interjects writings & thoughts who very few Americans have never heard about. Diaries, letters and quotes help frame the thoughts & consciences of a people on both sides of the conflict. It is a refreshing take on the American experience and persistence that the soldiers, both men & women, had to exhibit to gain their independence from England.!
I would definitely recommend a reading, or listening, of the book. It’s well written and well read. Kudos to the author snd narrator.

Story
In a narrative that moves from Washington's headquarters on the Hudson River, to the wooded hillside in North Carolina where Nathanael Greene fought Lord Cornwallis to a vicious draw, to Lafayette's brilliant series of maneuvers across Tidewater Virginia, author Nathaniel Philbrick details the epic and suspenseful year through to its triumphant conclusion. A riveting and wide-ranging story, full of dramatic, unexpected turns, In the Hurricane's Eye reveals that the fate of the American Revolution depended, in the end, on Washington and the sea.
