Story
In 2059, two vastly different groups of people portrayed by the compelling trio of Brendan Fraser (Academy Award winner), Luke Kirby (Emmy Award winner), and Vanessa Sears (Dora Award winner) undergo cryonic suspension. While their bodies are frozen, their minds, still active and awake, are uploaded into a massive quantum computer. The first group are all astronauts, about to leave Earth on a one-way interstellar colonization mission. The second group consists of convicted murderers and volunteers who elect to serve their sentences in a virtual-reality prison.

Intriguing social commentary!
Reviewed: 01-28-24
It's interesting how some gave this work a one star review claiming it's too "political" and "woke". It's supposed to be! Social political commentary as well as philosophical ideas on the nature of human nature and the future of our species is carefully and interestingly woven into a wonderfully executed sci-fi story. Listen with an open mind and you can see how a fictional world in the far, far future, mirrors our own fractured society of today. This will be a multiple listen for me, I feel there are more layers to uncover.

Story
Author Kate Bornstein ushers listeners on a funny, fearless, and wonderfully scenic journey across the terrains of gender and identity. On one level, Gender Outlaw details Bornstein's transformation from heterosexual male to lesbian woman, from a one-time IBM salesperson to a playwright and performance artist. But this particular coming-of-age story is also a provocative investigation into our notions of male and female, from a self-described nonbinary transfeminine diesel femme dyke who never stops questioning our cultural assumptions.

Story
Alice in Genderland is the first ever memoir by a crossdresser who is not content to live behind closed doors—and who takes it much further than his straighter, more circumspect peers might ever care to go. Most of the time, Harvard-educated psychiatrist Richard Novic is Rick, a caring doctor at the office and a loving husband and father at home. But one night a week, he is Alice, a brave trans woman about town, shopping, dining, dancing, and more.

Very good overall read / listen on the subject matter of crossdressing and transgender.
Reviewed: 12-25-23
Not all individual trans and crossdressing stories are the same. This is Alice's unique tale of Richard fulfilling their deepest desire to become Alice. Very candid and intimate. At times, Alice's story does almost borderline on trans erotica but that's ok, it's her sexual exploration in who she is. It would have been nice if it was narrated by the author. The narrator does a good job, but the very deep masculine tone of voice at times does not mesh well, (for me)with the beautiful image I had as I imagined Alice in her beautiful self. Overall, very informative if you're a crossdresser, curious to explore one aspect of the trans spectrum, or a spouse of a crossdresser.

I was so interested in learning more about Darth Maul that I purchased this. Ok! It started good... The narration was foreboding.... Good...
Then it didn't stop. The narration was OVEREMPHASIZED. The inflection of the narrator on the storyline became obnoxious! Not every sentence has to be read in such a way to create dramatic effect!

Story
Ataegina was an isolated world of medieval castles, varied cultures, and conquests, vibrant until the demons rose and spread relentless destruction. Swarms of lethal creatures with black husks, murderous claws, barbed tails, and dreaded “tooth-tongues” raged through the lowlands, killing 90 percent of the planet’s population. Terrified survivors fled to hidden mountain keeps where they eke out a meager existence. When a trio of young warriors discovers a new weapon, they see a chance to end this curse. To save humanity, they must fight.

Wonderful and amazing original story!!!! At first I struggled to get my head around the "Medieval" setting the characters were placed in alongside the "black demons". The building of the personalities of the characters, setting, and pace of the storytelling kept me and hooked me in till the very end!
Bronson Pinchot is also an amazing narrator! Never dull. His narration is never dull and matches the pace of where the story is in. His voicing of the characters are all unique and spot on at all points in the narration. He has a gift of getting to know and "be" the voice of the characters he's narrating.

Roland Deschain and his ka-tet are bearing southeast through the forests of Mid-World, the almost timeless landscape that seems to stretch from the wreckage of civility that defined Roland's youth to the crimson chaos that seems the future's only promise. Followers of Stephen King's epic series know Roland well, or as well as this enigmatic hero can be known. They also know the companions who have been drawn to his quest for the Dark Tower: Eddie Dean and his wife, Susannah; Jake Chambers; and Oy.

The only problems I found, which are minor, are the jump back to the narrator from the first book. Both narrators are excellent but the change takes a little getting used to. The other, is in the recording. It's a little muddy sounding. If you have the option on your listening device, lower the bass and raise the mids and highs for more vocal clarity and your all set. Other than that it's an excellent listen and story.

Story
From one of the most prominent voices on the American left, a galvanizing argument for why we need socialism in the US today. Bhaskar Sunkara explores socialism's history since the mid-1800s and presents a realistic vision for its future. Sunkara shows that socialism, though often seen primarily as an economic system, in fact offers the means to fight all forms of oppression, including racism and sexism. The ultimate goal is not Soviet-style planning, but to win rights to health care, education, and housing and to create new democratic institutions in workplaces and communities.

Interesting but not what you'd expect
Reviewed: 09-09-21
The bulk of the audio book is mostly the history of socialism and how it has evolved throughout the years. If your expecting a modern approach as to how socialism might apply in the modern 21st century, this is only touched upon towards the end and you'd be better off finding something else if the history of socialism isn't your top priority. Nevertheless you would like to brush up on the history and learn on what not to do when applying socialism, this is a good read/listen.

Story
The 2016 election was a watershed for the United States. But, as Tim Alberta explains in American Carnage, to understand Trump’s victory is to view him not as the creator of this era of polarization and bruising partisanship, but rather as its most manifest consequence. American Carnage is the story of a president’s rise based on a country’s evolution and a party’s collapse. As George W. Bush left office with record-low approval ratings and Barack Obama led a Democratic takeover of Washington, Republicans faced a moment of reckoning.

Story
Religious fundamentalists and biblical literalists present any number of arguments that attempt to disprove evolution. Those with a sympathetic ear often fail to critically examine these creationist claims, leading to an ill-informed public and, perhaps more troubling, ill-advised public policy. As Aron Ra makes clear, however, every single argument deployed by creationists in their attacks on evolution is founded on fundamental scientific, religious, and historical falsehoods - all of them.

Aron Ra provides a very thorough exposure of all the frauds and failures of creationism, not as atheist literature denying the existence of God, but as arguments for evolution that are evidence-based, colapse creationist belief.

This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

Stephen King's meticulous skill in bringing the characters to life in this novel is absolutely beautiful. When I was through listening, I felt sad, like loosing old friends. Part of this feeling was due to incredible narration. Each character had their own personality and all felt unique, even though it was done by the same narrator. Loved it and will listen in time as the circle, will open, once more.
