Story
Bea has barely been scraping by since her husband died. After falling for a telephone scam, she loses everything and is forced to abandon her trailer. With only two-thirds of a tank in her old van, she heads toward the Pacific Ocean with her cat - on a mission to reclaim what's rightfully hers, even if it means making others pay for what she lost.

Good plot line and very good characters

This is the first book I've listened to by Catherine Ryan Hyde and I was pleasantly surprised. I loved Bea, as bitter as she was, I can understand how she came to be so after what happened to her. Any senior citizen could have been duped as she was, and would be just one phone call away from the same fate as she. Allie was a little less believable as the teenager stranded by her parents as she was. Seems like she did almost as much growing up as Bea did at the end. Loved the narrators and enjoyed the pace of the book. I'm looking at more from this author for future purchases.

Story
When Dr. John Taylor is found dead in a hotel room in his hometown, the local police find enough incriminating evidence to suspect foul play. Detective Samantha Adams, whose Palo Alto beat usually covers small-town crimes, is innocently thrown into a high-profile murder case that is more intricately intertwined than she could ever imagine. A renowned plastic surgeon, a respected family man, and an active community spokesman, Dr. Taylor was loved and admired. But, hidden from the public eye, he led a secret life - in fact, multiple lives.

Disappointed 😞

While the subject matter was interesting in the beginning, the jumping back and forth of characters got monotonous. The author seemed as if she was trying to extend the book by having many, many needless details and conversations between the characters. The ending, on the other hand, was quite abrupt and disappointing.
