Story
Rus, a fearless runner by day and racer by night, stands at the brink of eviction, with his family's home hanging in the balance. After a catastrophic accident, he's faced with a life-changing choice: undergo experimental modifications and be forever indebted to the ominous M-Corp or be left to perish. As Rus grapples with his new reality, Pim's journey of hope and despair intertwines with Shay, a ten-year-old scavenger, revealing the harshest aspects of city life.

It’s a mixed bag with lots of potential
Reviewed: 02-08-25
Pros: Cool World, Emotional Character Building, pretty authentic feeling Aviation job perspective, compelling and interesting plot points, and a ton of potential.
Cons: over the top vulgarity, absolutely inexplicable plot with Shay/Pim, choppy plot line editing in the second half of the book, the organization and development in the school is somewhat unexplained and inconsistent, the use of augworld is underwhelming after the opening emphasis on it, the stat screens mean very little, and the upgrades are just numbers with no explanation. The story arc is rough.
I don’t finish books that are bad, and this one I think the good outweighs it. I believe it would have been served better to break the book up into two smaller chunks with more clear story arcs, and spend more time on helping the reader better understand all the cool things that I know the author has in mind, and maybe a little less on the heavy emotional exposition.

Story
It’s the end of the world as you've never known it. Join the Librarian as he does his best to make the post-apocalyptic world a better place by protecting the weak, fighting injustice, squaring off against a group of former renaissance fair workers who have established a kingdom in the Rocky Mountains, and so on. Can one man make a difference in the face of such murderous cannibals and super smart bears? Probably not.

It’s just not written in a very compelling way. Found myself not looking forward to it, was a slog to get through; the jokes and humor didn’t land well for me. 2/3rds of the way through book one and I just stopped.

Missed Opportunity
Reviewed: 10-24-24
This series had a lot of potential, and quite honestly I couldn’t bring myself to finish it. Made it through 2 books. Interesting enough magic system, and yet the story is just executed poorly. Evil has little explanation or motivation, too much time is spent on romance that does not add much, and the characters almost never struggle except seemingly by accident.

Story
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

50 shades of disappointing fantasy romance
Reviewed: 10-08-24
This story had a lot of potential. Interesting ideas on dragon fantasy. Good plotline potential and story arc. Something like 30% of the writing is main characters repetitive emotions and ridiculous romantic over development. People who compare to epic fantasy utterly misconstrue the overbearing insertions of unneeded emotional dialogue. The better comparison one part Hallmark Story, one part girl power magazine, and one part how to train your dragon.

Great Continuation of the story
Reviewed: 09-14-24
First 2/3rds of the book are great. Action, problem solving, new interesting characters. The final 1/3rd of the book is effectively setting up the next book. Necessary prose maybe. I think the book would have been served well by adding about 7-10 chapters and ending on a series of cliffhangers given everything that is coming. Still, continues to be my favorite litrpg series.

This book should be read by more people. Epic, beautifully written story, and TGR narration is always great. The book meanders a bit at times in the name of world building and character depth, and the choice of words and metaphors make it like walking, sometimes running, down a long, beautiful mountain trail with endless sights, sounds, and smells. Read it! Or listen, however you prefer.

Story
This is the way the world ends...for the last time. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world's sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the Earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.

Not for me
Reviewed: 09-25-23
Long, depressing, dark in an almost nihilistic sense. The narrator is very good, however her voice and timbre just added to the depressing feeling of the arc. I stopped 1/3rd of the way in; the story had no hope, no redemptive or aspirational plot to speak of. The fantastical elements are cool and original, so kudos there. But calling it a book about various forms of graphic abuse while masquerading as a book about power is just not my cup of tea.

Fantastic Trio of Stories
Reviewed: 09-09-23
Don’t miss out on this. 3 very well done stories. Fantasy, anime but not cheesy, action, heart, humor, plot twists, it’s all there. A little bloody at times but not too gratuitous except in a few of the more pitched fights, and not unreasonable for both a younger and older audience.
Narration is great, consistent and varied vocals. There’s a few points where words are repeated and you know some editing was clipped, but it’s really a minor nuisance in an overall great set of audio books.

Story
When Raik, the most cunning smuggler this side of the desert, finds where the Ivory King vaults his magical runes—he builds a crew to execute an elaborate heist. Among them is Kahli Mahanta, a religious assassin with blind ambition. A young rogue, Kirin, with wit sharper than his arrows ought to be. And Amara, the so-called Nightspirit, whose raven-hair conceals even darker secrets. It won't be easy. They’re opposed by the curved blades of the magic-deranged, watched by a paranoid king, and hunted by gaunt beasts that click in the cold desert night.

An okay story with predictable twists and inconsistent, unnecessary, and poorly executed adult thematic elements (language/sexuality) that did not add to the story. Character development and motivations were not strong which is too bad because the characters had a lot of potential.
