Lack of impact

I’d say that the writing style is a little bit bland. The shocks and twists that should leave me, gasping and expectant of the next chapter fall flat. And the twist at the end was predictable from midway through the book.
I’m not sure if it’s something to do with the writing style or if it’s something to do with a content of the story, but the characters seem overly cautious and complex. Real characters wouldn’t be as meticulously overplanning every little thing. Wyl Lark is probably the most realistic character, although he’s written to be the most naïve. Every other character is a schemer strategist or has perfect luck.

Story
When The Sandman, also known as Lord Morpheus - the immortal king of dreams, stories and the imagination - is pulled from his realm and imprisoned on Earth by a nefarious cult, he languishes for decades before finally escaping. Once free, he must retrieve the three “tools” that will restore his power and help him to rebuild his dominion, which has deteriorated in his absence.

A mixed bag

This is my first review, but not my first audiobook. It’s hard to really pinpoint how to start this review. James McAvoy does a hit and miss job as the Sandman often portraying too much emotion and other times portraying not enough emotion or placated audio or voice acting.
That being said he’s probably the best voice actor of the lot however many of the same characters are fantastic and Kat Dennings does not do a bad job either tell her introduction is that truly undermines the severity of the job she performs.
The nature of the Sandman stories is a little bit complicated. There are a series of short tails tall through the lines of people who interact with the Sandman or the dreaming or the endless. Asked that some of the stories are really provocative an interesting and others are transient in a little bit Rapids. However Neil Gaiman’s narration I’m storytelling ability really shine through.
Overall I agree with most of the comments on audible the first couple of stories are the best ones and after that it seems like there’s quite a few filler ones. To that end I got to say if you get this book try to get it using a free credit or wait for some deal because I do not think, despite the great production value,it is worth the full price.
