One of my favourites of all time
Reviewed: 03-29-23
I listened to this three years ago and came back today to ensure I've reviewed all four books in the series. I realised I'd missed this one. This should give you an idea of the impression this series left if I'm still thinking about it three years later. If you enjoy epic series that build and draw you into the characters' lives while the challenges escalate to bigger and bigger orders of magnitude, get this series!

This book has a very interesting premise, good character development, and enough action and intrigue to make me want to keep going and find out what will happen. It's well-written and enjoyable for dystopian lovers like myself.

Enjoyable listen

I enjoyed this book and would give it 3.5 stars for the story/writing. It was a good storyline with good pacing and I enjoyed the intrigue. Really, everything about it was good, except the dialogue, which seemed unnatural and stilted at times. Even so, I still enjoyed it.

Thought provoking

Very interesting premise and well-executed. This story goes deeper than one may realize and is thought-provoking. What makes one human? Or "sentient" may be a better word than "human".
Sometimes it felt a little bit slow, but I enjoyed the whole story and would be happy to read the sequel.

Humorous sci-fi

This was a very enjoyable listen. I enjoyed the author's off-beat sense of humour. Good story line, interesting characters and plenty happening to keep things interesting! I'd suggest this to anyone who enjoys sci-fi and has a quirky sense of humour.

Gripping
Reviewed: 12-10-20
Very much enjoyed this fast-paced story and the world it's set in--an interesting dystopian society with different races up against one another. I was gripped pretty much right from the beginning, all the way to the end and I'd be happy to read a sequel to this too!

Story
Nobody has taken part in the Devil’s Run annual road race as often as Dutch McGuire and lived to tell the tale. The racecourse circumnavigates the post-apocalyptic ruins of Teijouan, and with a choice between being eaten by the monstrous Kaiju that prowl the island’s devastated cities or murdered by her fellow racers, the odds against surviving another Run, let alone winning it, are slim.

Interesting and different world
Reviewed: 12-10-20
I enjoyed the characters and story. The most interesting thing about the story for me was the world and the twists in relation to how it got to be as it is.
The only thing I didn't like about the narrator was her Australian accent, which bugged me throughout. Other than that she was great.
Enjoyable listen!

Short, but great

To be honest, I'm not a big fan of short stories, but this one was great. The author manages to create a whole word, societies, history, all in very few words and the twist in the story was very satisfying.

I enjoyed this book. It's well written and the narrator did a great job on the different characters. The story is intriguing and kept my interest. I was definitely trying to figure out what was really going on, and didn't' predict the outcome. This isn't really my favourite genre, but I still enjoyed the whole story, so that's a very good sign!
