As a modern economics and game theory junkie this is almost a must read. Some of it is pretty good some of it isn't. The last third of the book is sort of a so what. Some of the most interesting revelations come when you juxtapose things from different chapters.

I like authors with self deprecating humor. Unfortunatley much of Bryson's humor is at the expense of those unlucky enough to cross his path. The driver who takes him to the trailhead, his hiking partner, or the inhabitants of Gatlinburg Tn. Neither funny nor illuminating.

This is a superb book that everyone should read. Well written, comprehensive, and honest. I only wish there were more. It doesn't lays out success and failure without grinding any partisan axes.

Approximately 1/3 of the way through this book it's impressive. Diamond has a gift for storytelling and an understanding of this thesis that makes this book well worth absorbing. He deftly weaves the story of modern Montanna into his studies of the past.
