Story
Broadsword Calling Danny Boy is Geoff Dyer's hilarious tribute to a film he has loved since childhood: It's a scene-by-scene analysis - or should that be send-up? - taking us from it's snowy, Teutonic opening credits to its vertigo-inducing climax.

I was really hoping that this “book” would have been filled with interesting anecdotes about the making of Where Eagles Dare, but instead it was just a rehash of the entire movie in story-form. I’d much rather have just watched the movie again for the 30th time, at least then I would have been entertained.

Nazis are bad. The worst kind of bad. There are no very fine people among them. If you disagree, you won’t like this book. Still here? Cool. You are about to receive an education unlike any you’ve previously experienced. In this uproarious and informative tour from ancient times to the modern day and everything in between, James Fell, the self-proclaimed “sweary historian,” reveals a past replete with deeds both noble and despicable. Could have been a good book

The premise of having a history book highlighting something interesting that happened on each day of the year throughout history is a good idea. The premise of doing it while adding in way over-the-top vulgarity is a bad idea especially when also incorporating far left editorial commentary throughout the book. Don’t waste your time or money on this one.

Exactly what you would want from a book by these 2 guys.

Great stories about their childhood and since they narrate the book themselves they put exactly the right emphasis in the right places. Light reading to be sure but after my last couple of books this was exactly what I needed.
