the storyline felt like something a first year English major produced. it was hard to follow and very predictable and cliche. I was barely able to finish. I was hoping it better at some point.

Story
When the over-driven hyperdrive on their mobile shipyard burned out, the Chhrt'ktk't abandoned it in an inhabited system along their path, hoping it would work as a decoy to buy them more time to escape the Khreetan fleet pursuing them. They didn't anticipate how far the pre-spacefaring species they turned over their broken-down maintenance facility to would subvert their plan.

I have listened to other stories by Rick and well entertained i needed to take a break; however, with this series i didn't feel that need. i think that is because author has taken leap forward in his story telling. i was more than entertained i was moved to tears at times and others times I was at the edge of my sit. I am a veteran and i feel that he caught the essence of what it means to serve.

Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

The bad: As an army veteran there is a HUGE difference between the marine corps oorah and an Army hooah .

I loved this book and to think I almost sold it back without listening. As an armor veteran that trained at Fort Knox I love the realism of attending basic and struggles that it involved. This book reminded me of the books I read as teenager, a book that I could let myself get lost in. Do your self a favor and listen to it!

My name is Alphonse Malloy, and I see everything. From a simple glance, I know your hobbies, what you ate for breakfast, how well you slept, and whether or not your wife is secretly seeing the high school biology teacher when you're not around. I can't explain how or why I get these feelings, only that I know they're true. All the little secrets you're too afraid to tell. Sometimes, that means helping people. Other times, it means staring down the barrel of a loaded gun. I wish I could tell you I was using this ability for good.
