Story
After serving five years in prison for a tragic mistake, Kenna Rowan returns to the town where it all went wrong, hoping to reunite with her four-year-old daughter. But the bridges Kenna burned are proving impossible to rebuild. Everyone in her daughter’s life is determined to shut Kenna out, no matter how hard she works to prove herself. The only person who hasn’t closed the door on her completely is Ledger Ward, a local bar owner and one of the few remaining links to Kenna’s daughter.

Don't waste your time

This book was awful. I tried to finish it and got about 75% of the way through before I realized there was no decent end to the nonsense. It's the first book I haven't finished in years. The main character has no redeeming qualities. She's generally annoying, self-absorbed and never once tries to actually take a thoughtful approach to figuring out a life with her child. Ledger seemingly feels for Kenna instantly due to physical attraction, despite the hurt and pain she has caused. In the blink of an eye, without any insight or background, helps her despite her history and knowing the risks. No one has any regard for actual legal realities here. All of it is just poorly developed and generally annoying. If you're looking for a book with good reviews that will leave you disappointed, here it is.

Great Demo! provides sales and presales staff with a method to dramatically increase their success in closing business through substantially improved software demonstrations. It draws upon the experiences of thousands of demonstrations, both delivered and received from vendors and customers. The distinctive "Do the Last Thing First" concept generates a "Wow!" response from customers.

Painful to attempt to finish
Reviewed: 09-13-22
This book could’ve easily been a 1-2 hr podcast or short article, but it’s filled with fluff and outdated material. It’s painful to try and finish. At the root of it there are good concepts for sales and demos which is the reason for the 2 stars. However, it is horribly antiquated and in much need of an update to fit with selling styles in 2022 and beyond. The examples presented are outdated as well. There’s an actual quote about remote demos are for when you want to lose a sale. I wouldn’t recommend to anyone. There are better sales/demo books out there that do a better job.

Story
Two men, each handsome and unusually adept at his chosen work, embodied an element of the great dynamic that characterized America’s rush toward the twentieth century. The architect was Daniel Hudson Burnham, the fair’s brilliant director of works and the builder of many of the country’s most important structures, including the Flatiron Building in New York and Union Station in Washington, D.C. The murderer was Henry H. Holmes, a young doctor who, in a malign parody of the White City, built his “World’s Fair Hotel” just west of the fairgrounds.

Too many details to keep interest, slow to evolve

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would not recommend this book to a friend. I was looking forward to listening/reading this book. My husband and I both struggled to get into what we thought would be a gripping story. There is so much going on and so many details in the book, that you just get lost and bored while listening..... disappointing.
What do you think your next listen will be?
I've already started Jim Gaffigan and am looking for another mystery/thriller that will be good.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Yes
Could you see The Devil in the White City being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Yes, and it would be the first time I think a movie would be better than the book. Leo is already cast, but I thought Jude Law would've been good for Dr. Holmes.
Any additional comments?
I'll probably give it another go and see if I can get into it, but I've already moved on to others.
