Allie Garvey is heading home to the funeral of a childhood friend. Allie is not only grief-stricken, she's full of dread. Because going home means seeing the other two people with whom she shares an unbearable secret. Twenty years earlier, a horrific incident shattered the lives of five teenagers, including Allie. Drinking and partying in the woods, they played a dangerous prank that went tragically wrong. The teenagers kept what happened a secret, believing that getting caught would be the worst thing that could happen. But time has taught Allie that not getting caught was far worse.

Do you like sap?
Reviewed: 10-09-19
Lisa is a good writer but tends to be too sappy and it gets tiresome before the end of the book. Her women protagonists tend to be weak weepers and I think most women are much stronger than she portrays them.

Based on exclusive interviews with justices themselves, The Nine tells the story of the Supreme Court through personalities, from Anthony Kennedy's overwhelming sense of self-importance to Clarence Thomas' well-tended grievances against his critics to David Souter's odd 19th century lifestyle. There is also, for the first time, the full behind-the-scenes story of Bush v. Gore and Sandra Day O'Connor's fateful breach with George W. Bush, the president she helped place in office.

Sleep-inducing.
Reviewed: 12-14-18
This book has a great narrator, so I can't lay the blame for returning the book on him. Unless you are a dyed-in-the-wool Supreme Court junkie, this book will cure your insomnia within the first few pages. I don't return many books, but this one is going back.

Abby insists that he was murdered and pleads with Jill to help find his killer.

Overload of sap
Reviewed: 05-05-17
I'm guessing i have listened to 20 of Lisa's books and she always makes them come out with a good ending, no loose ends. I like that, but this book wzs unbearably sappy. Had it been a print edition you could not have opened it for the pages would have been totally adhesed with all the sap. And the narrator made it worse with all the weeping, wailing and teary angst so prevalent throughtout the book. Many times I would say to myself that I wasn't going to finish it but didn't have any others to listen to. so there you have it.
