Who is that guy???
Reviewed: 12-17-22
This should have been a great listen. The lady was engaging, a pleasant voice, knowledgeable. Where I have a problem is with that guy. Every 10 seconds he says "yeah" or repeats part of her sentence.. No matter what she is saying he just keeps this up. Very irritating gentleman. Too bad because it is an interesting story. I'll end this with "yeah", it would have been better without him.

Story
Over two grim nights in Los Angeles, the young followers of Charles Manson murdered seven people, including the actress Sharon Tate, then eight months pregnant. With no mercy and seemingly no motive, the Manson Family followed their leader's every order. Twenty years ago, when journalist Tom O'Neill was reporting a magazine piece about the murders, he worried there was nothing new to say. Then he unearthed shocking evidence of a cover-up behind the "official" story, including police carelessness, legal misconduct, and potential surveillance by intelligence agents.

Great!!!

This doesn't disappoint!! Mr O'Neil has done his homework very well. He divulges everything other authors have kept burred. There is so much more to this case than most of us know and he brings it right out there in the open. This is probably the most informative, fact packed book on the subject. There is so much to this story that he didn't include and I expect to see a sequel in the near future. …...Another good one on this subject is "Coming Down Fast".

Story
More than 40 years ago Charles Manson and his mostly female commune killed nine people, among them the pregnant actress Sharon Tate. It was the culmination of a criminal career that author Jeff Guinn traces back to Manson’s childhood. Guinn interviewed Manson’s sister and cousin, neither of whom had ever previously cooperated with an author. Childhood friends, cellmates, and even some members of the Manson family have provided new information about Manson’s life. Guinn has made discoveries about the night of the Tate murders, answering unresolved questions.

If you have studied the Manson case at all you won't find much new here. The narration is good and the story flows well.

In American on Purpose, Craig Ferguson delivers a moving and achingly funny memoir of living the American dream as he journeys from the mean streets of Glasgow, Scotland, to the comedic promised land of Hollywood. Along the way, he stumbles through several attempts to make his mark - as a punk rock musician, a construction worker, a bouncer, and, tragically, a modern dancer.
