Story
Runa will not let her little sister die. Alia traded her voice to the sea witch for a shot at happiness with a prince who doesn’t love her. And his rejection will literally kill her - unless Runa intervenes. Under the sea, Evie craves her own freedom - but liberation from her role as sea witch will require an exchange she may not be willing to make. Unusual and Brilliant
Reviewed: 03-09-21
My first impression was admittedly not great. The voices I have the readers here are less perky and a bit dark as well. That, along with the book having been written in present tense, was a slightly off putting.
Give it a few chapters... soon you will begin to see those as perfectly complementary and maybe even essential to the telling of the story.
The Sea Witch refers to the first request bringer as “the little mermaid”, but this story isn’t about her. It’s about her twin sister trying to bring her back home during what I believe is meant to be portrayed as WW1 and takes a surprising turn in a direction I never would have imagined. It is so well done, a seamless transition from what do you think you are reading!
The depth of the main characters and unpredictable nature of this story are perfectly balanced and refreshing.
Many young adult titles are a bit to adult-ish for young teens or pre-teens who really want to dive headfirst into the genre, but not this one.

Story
The year is 1771. Claire Randall is still an outlander, out of place and out of time. But now she is linked by love to her only anchor - Jamie Fraser. They have crossed oceans and centuries to build a life together in North Carolina. But tensions, both ancient and recent, threaten members of their clan. Knowing that his wife has the gift of prophecy, James must believe Claire, though he would prefer not to. Claire has shared a dreadful truth - there will, without a doubt, be a war.

The flow of the Outlander series has remained consistently engaging, surprising, and subversive. Having the same narrator throughout, thus far, has also be pleasant.

I LOVED this final installation of the Iron Fey series. It rounded out so nicely. The action was amazing. The dialogue intriguing. Fans of Harry Potter, Dr. Who, The Mortal Instruments and A Court of Thorns and Roses may feel like home in the Iron Fey universe.

I wish I knew how to search for books read by MacLeod Andrews! There is a unique and stirring quality to his speech pattern. He was also excellent at varying his tone for the different characters.
