Story
Most of the world remembers Crazy Horse as a peerless warrior who brought the U.S. Army to its knees at the Battle of Little Bighorn. But to his fellow Lakota Indians, he was a dutiful son and humble fighting man who, with valor, spirit, respect, and unparalleled leadership, fought for his people's land, livelihood, and honor. In this fascinating biography, Joseph Marshall, himself a Lakota Indian, creates a vibrant portrait of the man, his times, and his legacy.

Historically intriguing perspective with deep cultural insight. Narrator could read the dictionary and it would be great. This is a must read for those looking for the real (non-woke) story of the frontier.

The true story (on which the film Jeremiah Johnson was partially based) of John Johnson, who in 1847 found his wife and her unborn child had been killed by Crow braves. Out of this tragedy came one of the most gripping feuds - one man against a whole tribe - in American history.

Pre revisionist history, both awesome and awful aspects as it actually happened. A must for movie fans of Jeremiah Johnson. Very well done performance wise.

Story
At 58 years old, Jeff Mann had read dozens of those apocalyptic sci-fi novels, and all were wrong. The cause was the incompetence of the world's governments and the failure of the many financial Ponzi schemes. First, the riots and looting came, and then starvation and depravity followed. The billionaires built safe compounds while everyone else died off or fought to survive the holocaust at the end of the modern world. Jeff begins a crusade against human trafficking after saving two women from slavers. Can one man and two women make a difference in a world gone mad?

Story
Jerusalem and the Sinai desert, AD 55. In the turbulent aftermath of the crucifixion of Jesus, agents of the Roman Empire receive information about a pilgrim bearing an incendiary letter from a religious fanatic calling himself Paul the Apostle to insurrectionists in Corinth. What's in the letter could bring down an empire. The Romans hire a former legionary, a solitary man-at-arms named Telamon to intercept the letter and destroy the courier. But once he meets the courier, Telamon experiences an extraordinary conversion.

Confused…
Reviewed: 10-28-21
Great story, however, narrator accent was very thick. I don’t know if this added or detracted from the story. I often found myself straining to simply understand and routinely seemed to be seconds behind the story. That said, the narrator’s performance somehow made the entire story much more authentic and added character. Almost like having a story passed on to you by your grandfather.

Story
The legacy of General Nathan Bedford Forrest is deeply divisive. Best known for being accused of war crimes at the Battle of Fort Pillow and for his role as first grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan - an organization he later denounced - Forrest has often been studied as a military figure, but never before studied as a fascinating individual who wrestled with the complex issues of his violent times. Bust Hell Wide Open is a comprehensive portrait of Nathan Bedford Forrest as a man: his achievements, failings, reflections, and regrets.

The crimes of Hollywood and revisionist history are highlighted in the true history of NBF. What’s worse than simple stonewalling of the truth is that one of the greatest inspirational historical figures of our country is kept alienated from young generations in dire need of manly grit and tenacity.

If you like old westerns you’ll like this.
Reviewed: 04-29-21
Not for me, but if you like old tv westerns you will see in this novel the basis of every western character ever to grace the screen. This must be the true original, the founding character of all westerns. Good story and performance even though there is far too much ‘ dude doing a husky woman’s voice’ for my liking. Time for audio books to evolve and have multiple readers.
