Entertaining, but hard to ignore the way King writes female characters

Great narration, decent story. I sometimes found it difficult to ignore the way King seemed hung up on the damsel in distress trope. There is lots of variation and depth in some of his male characters, but his female characters seem all to be basically the same. I also could have entirely done without the way he writes sex scenes. It was as if sex was entirely for and about a man, and the woman's experience was only in relation to his.

Don't read this looking for anything other than summertime entertainment. It's the third King novel I've read and probably won't read another.

Maybe it wasn't a great place to start on King's work, but this didn't seem special to me. The characters were mostly two-dimensional and cliché, and aside from Holly, the female members of the story were particularly stereotypical and irritating. References to their inability to parallel park, vague masculine ideas regarding lesbianism, and a general disregard for their importance made up the majority of the story. I didn't hate it, but I'm far from recommending it to a friend.

Stop waiting and just get it. Reilly is even better than I imagined, and paired with this story, he reaches new heights.

Absolutely worth it. Harrowing, but beautifully narrated and a terrifying picture of early canada. A must read for anyone curious about early Canadian history and the relationship between the native Canadians and the Jesuit priests who landed there.

Seriously. Heartwarming, sweet, and lovingly produced. Don't cheat yourself by skipping this one, the familiar voices make it worth it alone.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I really enjoyed these stories. The reading was fantastic, engaging, and lots of fun. Having only experienced the Sherlock stories via the British show, this was a great way to get back to its beginnings.

Would you listen to Bossypants again? Why?

This book is as good, or better, than you're expecting. If you're a fan, or not yet a fan (those are your two choices), this audiobook is for you. I snort-laughed in public way more than is appropriate.
