Story
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Today, Dr. Temple Grandin is a scientist and professor of animal science at Colorado State University. Her career has revolutionized the livestock industry - each year, half the cattle in the United States are handled in cruelty-free facilities she designed. She is also a passionate advocate for autism, using her experience to prove that people with this disorder can have “normal” lives.

Most singers have a pleasant speaking voice. I don’t know why Jessica sounded so grating for her book. The portion on John Mayer was very insightful! Wow he is an Emotionally abusive, covert narcissist. So glad she escaped that goon.

Story
Kristin Neff changed how we talk about self-care with her enormously popular first book, Self-Compassion. Now, 10 years and many studies later, she expands her body of work to explore a brand-new take on self-compassion. Although kindness and self-acceptance allow us to be with ourselves as we are, in all our glorious imperfection, the desire to alleviate suffering at the heart of this mindset isn't always gentle, sometimes it's fierce.

Did not finish, Returned. This is the first book I have purposely not finished (stopped partway into chapter 3). It is also the only book I have EVER returned in 5 years and 100+ titles with Audible. Redundant. Not research based. Opinion presented as fact without evidence. Nothing new. It felt like gaslighting from the 1990's. I wanted self-compassion tips, not the trite "WOMEN ARE OPPRESSED AND ITS SOCIETY *MEN'S* FAULT" dogma. Vomit emoji. Very negative, hopeless, and bitter premise starting out the book, and I don't want any more of that influencing my vibe. Maybe I should have skipped to chapter 5, but I can't risk her infecting my psyche anymore when hoping to finally get to her "tips." I resent the waste of my time. Feels like a Huff Post article from 20 years ago. Tone of voice is condescending itself. Very hard to tolerate. I tried. Rally wanted to like this book.
