Story
The tellers of Greek myths—historically men—have routinely sidelined the female characters. When they do take a larger role, women are often portrayed as monstrous, vengeful or just plain evil—like Pandora, the woman of eternal scorn and damnation whose curiosity is tasked with causing all the world’s suffering and wickedness when she opened that forbidden box. But, as Natalie Haynes reveals, in ancient Greek myths there was no box. It was a jar . . . which is far more likely to tip over.

Humorous and eye-opening
Reviewed: 03-22-23
Eye-opening in terms of figuring out when sources were saying something wildly different from modern interpretations (examples Pandora and the Amazons) and realizations that there was far more to the story when examining more than just scrolls (the Gorgons having a whole lot more lore than simply Perseus). Humorous at the fact many of those realizations ARE incredibly funny and are written EXQUISITELY (such as one of the reasons Penelope didn't choose any of the suitors; whenever I remember that realization I burst into giggles).
It's a (very minor) shame the book was (presumably) sent in to the editor for final publishing RIGHT BEFORE the videogame Hades had its official multi-platform releases and the author could've had a chance to raid that area too. Dusa would've been a fine addition to the Medusa chapter, especially because of a certain comment/complaint the author had about the usual modern interpretations of Medusa!

Story
Arek hadn’t thought much about what would happen after he completed the prophecy that said he was destined to save the Kingdom of Ere from its evil ruler. So now that he’s finally managed to (somewhat clumsily) behead the evil king (turns out magical swords yanked from bogs don’t come pre-sharpened), he and his rag-tag group of quest companions are at a bit of a loss for what to do next. As a temporary safeguard, Arek’s best friend and mage, Matt, convinces him to assume the throne until the true heir can be rescued from her tower. Except that she’s dead.

The peril is GREAT
The resulting fluff because of the peril is GREAT
The characters are GREAT
The comedy and flailing around trying to rebuild the kingdom? GREAT
The copious swearing? YES. PERFECT. Emphasizes the comedy and reminds the readers these are common teenagers in over their heads and a lot on their plate. I've previously been annoyed by some other fantasy dialogue being super serious or flowery and fancy and in ways that give me doubts on whether this was an actual person speaking. No such problem with this book!
The obviousness between the pining characters? GREAT. It's like I'm in the corner of the room overhearing their banter and smirking at their misfortune and want to goad them on. WHICH BRINGS ME TO:
THE NARRATOR IS GREAT. I loved the tones he put into even the simple "UGH"s and the sarcastic jabs and the panic

Story
Max Remus couldn't care less about finding his mate—unlike the rest of his fate-obsessed pack. He totally prefers hanging with his bestie, eating his dad's steak sandwiches, and drawing in his trusty sketchbook. But all that is about to change at the Blue Moon Festival—a summer camp where Elite Pack wolves go to find their mates. The festival is a rite of passage for every teen werewolf, and this year's festival will be one to howl home about. The alpha's son, Jasper Apollo, is attending for the first time.

okay on a serious note I really liked this. The narrator was awesome when it came to the voices and the actual feeling when saying certain parts, such as the awkwardness or panic, in that way that is one of many interpretations readers could have if they were reading the physical copy. And it's the kind of entertaining that has me snickering at the main character's misfortune, and squeal when things get really cute (and laugh out loud when a perfectly guess the point certain distractions pop up (unfortunately it is a bad word so I can't really say it on here)
