Story
Bob and Gail Knight arrived in Tallahassee in the 1970s from different places and with different goals. Individually, they were ready for success. But they didn’t find greatness until they met each other and became "married to it". Their heartfelt, professional, and hilariously irreverent story is a must-listen for anyone interested in business, marriage, entrepreneurship, and balancing a healthy family life, both in business and at home.

Insightful and personable
Reviewed: 06-02-24
Diving into the depth of Bob and Gail’s individual and coupled journey from youth, small business running, parenthood, expansion, company transformation, merging, later youth (and more,) is a story you didn’t know you needed.
To me, it eloquently shares how to think about running your business and what having a home and work family means (and how those families are rooted in the same values.) This is told through the lives of two smart and hardworking individuals, rather than told directly to you.
The audiobook is very personable and enjoyable, hearing from Bob and Gail themselves makes the story and its lessons digestible. To me, It most importantly makes the mountain they’ve shaped seem like a mound (and one that is achievable to those with the passion for it.)

Story
You might have trouble imagining life without your social media accounts, but virtual reality pioneer Jaron Lanier insists that we’re better off without them. In his important new audiobook, Lanier, who participates in no social media, offers powerful and personal reasons for all of us to leave these dangerous online platforms behind before it’s too late. Lanier remains a tech optimist, so while demonstrating the evil that rules social media business models today, he also envisions a humanistic setting for social networking that can direct us towards richer and fuller way of living and connecting.

Hatred for Trump Interferes with book

Eye opening knowledge
Reviewed: 02-09-24
The perspective from Jaron on social media is eye opening, it’s likely to change the way you perceive social media and how you engage with modern day platforms due to awareness of their algorithms and their control on your behavior.
Topics discussed within the arguments are very clear, and some in particular (such as “social media is reducing your empathy”, or “bummer religion”) are very interesting.
Would highly recommend this to most people, and especially someone who utilizes social media frequently.

Story
Many famed music producers are known for a particular sound that has its day. Rick Rubin is known for something else: creating a space where artists of all different genres and traditions can home in on who they really are and what they really offer. He has made a practice of helping people transcend their self-imposed expectations in order to reconnect with a state of innocence from which the surprising becomes inevitable. Over the years, he has learned that being an artist isn’t about your specific output, it’s about your relationship to the world.

This was a great listen, there is so much insight into creative process within this book. Rubin’s narration of it is calming and allows for complex parts to be understood.
His perspective on art and creation brings a refreshing view to creating art within work focused societies. There are parts that are tougher to understand and required re-listening a few times, but nonetheless provide perspective and wisdom you can pull from and apply in your life.
I recommend this to anyone, but specifically to someone searching for new ways of approaching their everyday.

Story
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

A world of worlds

This book took me into a world, or several should I say, that made me feel I was alongside the protagonist the whole time.
I liked this aspect of it, it was very well done. I enjoyed the characters met along the way, and most enjoyed the character of Ms. Elm throughout it all.
A good book for anyone who’s not quite sure or content with their life as is, or for people just looking to venture out of reality for a bit.

Instant application of lessons

After listening through the book about halfway, the topics covered already influenced my daily life. Upon finishing, the lessons have made me personally aware of the small, but powerful changes that can be made each day.
James, if it’s his voice on this audio book, was very smooth and understandable when reading. It’s easy to listen to sped up, and words are articulated clearly (pun for sure intended.)
