Story
Only the most hardened survivalists can endure living in the scorched deadlands of the former state of Arizona. Among them is nineteen-year-old Georgia Reno, who lives in an isolated desert settlement with her father and younger brother. Roads don’t exist here; visitors are more dark fairy tale than reality. But when two mysterious strangers arrive on their land, Georgia begins to question her sheltered existence. Soon, her tentative curiosity blooms into a fledgling desire to leave the settlement, even if it means venturing into a world her father has only ever warned against.

Didn’t love the story

Even the drama at the end seems in unexciting. Nothing seems to happen at all.

Story
Hunting monsters was supposed to be the hard part. When Joy came to Apex City, all she cared about was protecting the Cits from the dangers lurking outside protective barriers. She understood the need for the secrecy surrounding her hunts - no need to cause a panic by announcing just how real of a threat the Othersiders pose. But as she quickly discovered, the conspiracies of the city run much deeper. And a dangerous new covert mission leaves Joy with a target on her back once more.

Not very intense. Not a lot of draw.

So the whole story the heroin is able to deal with everything they throw at her with little problem. Basically, it’s like this is happening and everybody struggling with it but when I came and showed him how to do that everything was fine”. She is this ultimate hero, which nobody or nothing can touch. There is not enough adversity or struggle to make it an interesting story. Half the book is her explaining monsters, and why everyone struggles with them, and then explaining how she deals with them, which is some unconventional heretofore unknown method to all these experts.
The love story is less than appealing. I don’t like her boyfriend he is to one-dimensional.
His only appeal is how devoted and in love with the heroin he is. And frankly, the whole thought of someone being able to read your mind and having to wear a shield to stop them is kind of creepy and not very romance inspiring.
The narration is lackluster and somewhat robotic. Sometimes it’s OK and then she’ll show for a one shot word or sentence in there that just sounds fake or like she’s reading it with the wrong inflection.
