Story
Braxton Knox was a veteran, a university professor, a conservative family man—a good person, commanding the respect of those who knew him. Until the day when one innocent slip of the tongue brought down the merciless wrath of the woke social justice mob—ultimately costing him his career, his family, his home, and almost his life.

Well written. While the revenge fantasy shocks the conscience, the depiction of the present age is spot on.

Simply the best fantasy being written today
Reviewed: 03-30-24
Larry Correia is a great writer, and unless he stumbles and falls into a vat of moron, this is going to be the greatest series he has written yet. If he finishes as well as he started, it’s going to be a series only comparable to the Wheel of Time, the Sword of Shannara, Game of Thrones, and Sanderson’s Stormlight Archives. It’s better than the latter on the list, more important and moreover interesting. The adventure on its face is riveting, but Correia delves into existentialist philosophy as he confronts an atheistic world living with demons.

Story
As a Knight of Crystallia, I, Bastille, swore to protect the Smedry clan from the Evil Librarians. (And believe me, screwups like them constantly need protecting.) But when Alcatraz Smedry got strapped to an altar of outdated encyclopedias to be sacrificed to the dark gods, I arrived too late―and instead his father took his place. Now Alcatraz is a blubbering mess, so it’s up to me lead the charge against his father’s killer: Biblioden, founder of the Evil Librarians―I was sure he died centuries ago!―who’s back to complete his goal of world domination.

Dumb, dark story
Reviewed: 03-22-24
There are plenty of entertaining and novel elements about this story, but it gets hackneyed and repetitive quickly. He took a good premise and then extended it into many books with cliffhangers based upon a promised ending that he couldn’t arrive at well. Skip the series.

Spensa’s life as a Defiant Defense Force pilot has been far from ordinary. She proved herself one of the best starfighters in the human enclave of Detritus, and she saved her people from extermination at the hands of the Krell - the enigmatic alien species that has been holding them captive for decades. What’s more, she traveled light-years from home as an undercover spy to infiltrate the Superiority, where she learned of the galaxy beyond her small planet home. Now, the Superiority - the governing galactic alliance bent on dominating all human life - has started a galaxy-wide war.

Story
All her life, Spensa has dreamed of becoming a pilot. Of proving she's a hero like her father. She made it to the sky, but the truths she learned about her father were crushing. The rumors of his cowardice are true - he deserted his flight during battle against the Krell. Worse, though, he turned against his team and attacked them.

Story
Spensa made it out of the Nowhere, but what she saw in the space between the stars has changed her forever. She came face to face with the Delvers, and finally got answers to the questions she’s had about her own strange Cytonic gifts. The Superiority didn’t stop fighting for galactic dominance while she was gone, though. Spensa’s team, Skyward Flight, was able to hold Winzik off, and even collect allies to help with the cause, but it’s only a matter of time until humanity—and the rest of the galaxy—falls.

Completely inappropriate profanity and sexual behavior
Reviewed: 03-22-24
I don’t understand why this Mormon author thought it necessary to add sexuality and profanity to his novels. I understand he wanted to make it more realistic, but that actually is a problem with a fantasy work. Fantasy is not realism, which is why it is imperative that the author connect with the Everyman. A child’s Everyman journey is distinct from an adult’s. Some children may be pushed into early sexuality, but the whole point of everyman is to create a universal consciousness that readers can connect to as they advance into the fantasy realm. By introducing sexuality and profanity, the author is not connecting with all of us. Ironically, he’s not connecting with those who profess his same values. Christians and Mormons do not want their children engaging in early sexuality and profanity, and so if this is not for them then it makes sense. Yet, I would suggest that my children are actuallydemographic he wants to target. In that sense the whole story is ruined. My children will not connect with this novel. I barely could, even as a child of the world raised by a single mom and molested. I think his privilege is showing.

A beautiful story, if your mind can handle it
Reviewed: 12-19-23
While it might sound absurd to say, this book is one of the rare science-fiction novels that requires a firm grasp of science to enjoy. Sharpen your astrophysics, your post, Newtonian physics, your theology, your philosophy, your math. The conclusion is epic, but it is an extensive process to get there, the journey across galaxies and back.

Story
Almost five years ago, America—as everyone knew it—came to an abrupt end in a spectacular coup d'état. It was called the Liberation by those progressives and radicals that screamed for its outcome; the Fall by its victims whose freedoms were trampled. The White House and the Capitol were overrun by anarchists, and the leaders of the once-proud nation were either imprisoned or sent to social quarantine camps. The president was arrested and eventually died in prison, or so everyone was led to believe. America was rebooted in a new progressive/socialist image, Newmerica.

Excellent story
Reviewed: 05-02-23
Arguably, this book is merely a faithful update to the famous Red Dawn, fighting against the same ideologies as that prior work. The only difference is that this time the invaders are domestic, rather than Cubans and Russians. Pardoe is a good writer, and the Audible version of this book is very satisfying. This book certainly won’t win any awards, nor is it likely that anyone will make a miniseries. However, it is worth five stars because it’s well executed.

I loved the pacing of the story, like a constant pursuit, until the very end. I like the play on words in the title. It was compelling to have the author read his own writing. In the way he intended it, I think it added punch to the writing style. A riveting thriller, worth the read, and the money.
