With some voices— those that whispered or hissed — difficult to understand with some devices. Story was a good escape.

The weaving of Fanny’s and RLS’s stories is very interesting but the use of regional accent in quotations is very annoying. The volume of the quotations doesn’t always match the regular narrative and sometimes the brogue is simply difficult to understand. I wanted a print version to read for myself.

The author put Frankie through the Murphy’s law of what can go wrong will go wrong. Less would have been more!

I always like when the author is the narrator and this was even more so for this book. Ketanji Brown Jackson is a superb writer and speaker and she has accomplished so much in her amazing life. I especially appreciated her openness about her family life, the challenges her family has faced, and the love and support for each other.

Joy Ann Reid narrated her own book which I liked. She is an excellent writer and moves through the facts deftly without getting bogged down. She also conveys the emotions of those of whom she writes. I highly recommend this book.

I agree with another review— it needs to be a movie. Anna Rosenberg is an example of a selfless citizen improving our democracy.

The last of Hilary Mantel’s trilogy about Thomas Cromwell engages the listener in trying to understand the man Cromwell. The narrator, Ben Miles, is so much Cromwell that in his interview at the end, I thought I might be listening to Cromwell. This trilogy has entered my “favorites” category.

By framing the US social structure in terms of caste, Isabel Wilkerson brings deeper understanding to what we are facing today. Well researched, beautifully written, flawlessly narrated, this book is at the top of my nonfiction favorites. Recommended reading for everyone.
