Story
Pioneers of Britain's nascent rock and metal scene back in the late 1970s, Iron Maiden smashed its way to the top, thanks in no small part to the high-octane performances, operatic singing style, and stage presence of its second but twice-longest-serving lead singer, Bruce Dickinson. As Iron Maiden's front man - first from 1981 to 1993 and then from 1999 to the present - Dickinson has been, and remains, a man of legend.

Essential for Maiden Fans, but so much more

I always thought Steve Harris wrote the lyrics for most Maiden songs. So wasn't sure what type of writer Bruce was. But his autobiography is amazing. He is an incedible story-teller. I bought this because I've been a long term Maiden fan, but this is a biography about coming of age in the 60/70s. It reminds me a little bit of Angela's Ashes - not in terms of the story but the quality of reminisces and mastery of language. And hearing Bruce narrating it is amazing - like he is a close friend. He could have yet another professional career (in addition to singer, fencer, and pilot) as an audio book narrator. What an amazing set of talents this man has. Can't recommend it enough.

Story
The hero of John Updike's Rabbit, Run (1960), ten years after the hectic events described in Rabbit Redux (1971), has come to enjoy considerable prosperity as Chief Sales Representative of Springer Motors, a Toyota agency in Brewer, Pennsylvania. The time is 1979: Skylab is falling, gas lines are lengthening, the President collapses while running in a marathon, and double-digit inflation coincides with a deflation of national confidence.

Mesmerizing

Out of the 200+ books in my Audible library, I’ve listened to this one by far the most, over and over. But I love Updike and the Rabbit trilogy, especially. This novel won both the Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award. So the man can write. It’s a study of human behavior and how the norms of the time change and effect it all. Not much happens plot-wise but you’ll recognize everything and everyone, especially if you remember the decade covered here - the 70s. Arthur Morey, the narrator for all these novels is equally as gifted as Updike in his discipline.
