Abuse Is Not Romantic

I am so sick of the abused woman trope. Everyone in the story of abuses her, her pack, her ex-best friend, the main male lead. Being harmed by the ML is not romantic, it's just bad writing. It's horrifying/ disgusting and I had to stop at chapter 17.

I will be asking for a refund.

SPOILER WARNING;

He purposely and uncaringly forces her into a painful situation and then leaves the room as she SOBS, by herself, curled up on the floor. 🤢 (Clear abuse).

The author had a quirk where they would repeat the way Blair spoke to an annoying degree. When Blair would describe something he would say "it said.....it said....it said...." Three or four times in a row with a different expression each time. His character does this a lot. It felt like nails on a chalkboard after the first time.

It was okay. all the plot points hit their mark like they were supposed to but 2/3 of the way through I felt like I lost all interest in seeing how it ended. I forced myself to finish by speeding it up to 2X.

I love Charlie Adhara books 📚 This is technically a mystery but that is not the important part of the story. The best thing about these books are the interactions between the characters.

Good internal conflicts, slow burn between characters, and coming to terms with new situations/ information. Even though half the characters are werewolves, the book feels so human and oh so relatable. 🥰

(Personal opinion- not a fan of the voice actor which is why I only gave performance 4/5 starts.)

The original cast members from Buffy made this audiobook phenomenal. Their performance made me nastalgic! 💖

My nit-picks are as follows:

-describing every hit out loud, instead of leaving it up to the imagination makes a cringe line that people wouldn't say out loud in real life.

- The monkey sidekick is completely unnecessary.

- The dog sidekick is very annoying. Barking is the worst background noise.

The book is well written, the characters are entertaining, and the story is great!

+ Misunderstanding troupe
+ Slight enemys to lovers troupe.
+ The perfect balance of sass and serious.

I liked it but it was to short. I wish it had been a longer, fully flushed out story with more plot and character development.
