Transitioning into 4 different POV rather than just the Reaper, with a different narrator for each, was something new to get used to. I love Tim Gerard Reynolds and John Curless, they are top notch. And Aedin Moloney read with really great emotion. However, Julian Elfer reads as if this is a documentary or an encyclopedia. I'm torn between believing this is intentional, as his character often has no/repressed feelings, or if he is just honestly a bad choice to narrate a fiction.
The story is as expected in this series. This book is slightly darker than previous books, as it starts to seem that there might not be a happy ending for the low colors/republic, it is a realistic look at what comes after these uprisings: the responsibility of the whole population you fought for. It is very well written and really keeps my attention.

This series has a decent story line, with some great encounters, but it is nearly ruined by a general lack of vocabular diversity. "All moisture evaporated from her mouth" is one example of a grossly overused phrase. Extremities are often described identically several times throughout the book. The descriptive language often falls just short of being boyishly immature. It took me between being thoroughly entertained by the fantasy and sex, and then disgusted by overbearing male control, and back again.
