I've listened to all the Alexander McCall Smith's series, but will be returning this one. I've only listened to one chapter, but the narrator is using a very high-pitched voice, with an overly enthusiastic tone, for the 3 female characters introduced so far. There is no differentiation between the 2 twenty-something characters, nor the somewhat older Aunt - I felt that her voice could have been lower and calmer for some contrast. Perhaps the narrator could have done better with better direction....

This is a lovely series of books, which gets better over time, as characters are developed, and as the plots get simpler. A glimpse into another culture as seen through a woman's eyes. As a reader of all of Alexander McCall Smith's books, a hallmark element is the long internal dialogues of his characters. Lisette Lecat is an amazing reader and the best I've ever heard at doing a variety of voices, including more than one male voice, executed so well that it seems at times that there is more than one reader; she's also able to put the occasional click into African names. This is a series better listened to than read because of this outstanding reader.
