Masterful book
Reviewed: 02-01-19
As someone who majored in history and always enjoyed enjoyed it this book is a must listen. Mr. Shirer let’s the facts speak for them selves, using first hand accounts and documents as well as being a journalist during the war. So he saw first hand the rise one of the world most evil dictators ever.
I truly believe that even if you are not a big history person, you will learn things and find this book interesting. If you are willing to read it with an open mind than you are willing to learn that is.
* please note that I absolutely support this author and this book. In NO WAY DO I CONDONE OR SUPPORT THE HEINOUS NAZI’S in this book. Sorry for the caps but unfortunately a number of people seem to jump to conclusions these days :-(

Tom Clancy is at the top of his game, this book helped set the bench mark for for the Jack Ryan series. J. Charles does a good job as narrator, paints a good picture and easy listen. I am blind so I notice the impact of the narrator as well as the book it self. Here you have a great book and good narrator.

Very good book
Reviewed: 04-05-18
Paul S. Kemp did a nice job with this book. It provides good background for the relationship between Darth Vader and the Emperor. Takes place shortly after the fall of the Republic. The Galactic Empire has worked toward establishing complete control of the galaxy. Putting worlds under the Empire’s boot, displaying his utter ruthlessness and cruelty.
Jonathan Davis, did a great job as narrator. He is one of the best available. He has been narrator a number of Star Wars novels. Does a great job doing each individual character’s voice.
Overall a good book, I think that at some points they try to fit too much into a section. If you are a Star Wars fan, certainly worth listening to this book.

Great book
Reviewed: 04-05-18
Claudia Gray out did herself with this book. As a huge Star Wars fan, I have bought or borrowed most Star Wars books. I am legally blind so I opt for audio versions, this book really held my attention and made it feel like I was truly there with the characters. I listened to the entire book in one sitting.
Pierce Cravens did a good job as narrator, I think that he did a good job with the voices. Knew when to change tone or tenor of voice to coincide with the action.
This book was everything and more, than I could have hoped. While I thought Aftermath trilogy was okay, this was far superior and makes up for the let down I felt with Aftermath. Certainly in my top ten favorite Star Wars books, will listen again.
The only thing that I would change is the book would be even better with Marc Thompson or Jonathan Davis as narrator. While I do think Pierce Cravens did a good job. Just in my view either Davis or Thompson could have improved the experience even more.
Overall great book, highly recommend this book to any Star Wars fan!

It's kill or be killed in the space penitentiary that houses the galaxy’s worst criminals, where convicts face off in gladiatorial combat while an underworld gambling empire reaps the profits of the illicit blood sport. But the newest contender in this savage arena, as demonic to behold as he is deadly to challenge, is fighting for more than just survival. His do-or-die mission, for the dark masters he serves, is to capture the ultimate weapon: an object that will enable the Sith to conquer the galaxy.

The author Joe Schreiber does a good job providing background on Darth Maul. I would give the story five stars if the simplified a couple side storylines.
Jonathan Davis does a wonderful job as always.
I am a harsh critic, I am a huge Star Wars fan. I am legally blind so I am very familiar with audio books. So I am demanding on expectations for audio books. I know that a great narrator can save a below average book. Or a great book can be ruined with a poor or below average narrator.
Overall very good book, may the Force be with us all.

Jack Higgins introduces readers to one of his most exciting and daring characters possible. Very well written, hated to stop listening. The descriptions make it feel as if you are really present in each scene. Michael Paige is fantastic as a narrator. I recommend this book and the subsequent books in the Sean Dillon series by Jack Higgins.
