Unable to suspend disbelief
Reviewed: 08-08-18
I get that this is fiction, but for me, the storyline needs to be somewhat realistic, otherwise this might as well be fantasy.
*** Minor spoilers ***
The premise that two people who grew up together, hated each other vehmently, and last saw each other at ages 14 & 16, meet 9 years later in a bar, namelessly hookup, and NEVER recognized who they are. Not even a fleeting thought of recognition. So from the beginning, I was skeptical.
What really threw me off was when they do meet and come to terms with who they are, he falls all over her and she blows him off. I would have like to seen him return to his dislike of her at least a little.
Then later when, when Mia talks with his sister, and her best friend Tessa, the sister actually asks about how big her brother’s antomy is. Seriously? Yeah, that made me cringe.
The ending was silly and unrealistic. To me it was a shameless use of plot in order to wrap up the story. I wish the ex girlfriend would have played a bigger part in the storyline. It was a miss not to use her as a source of conflict.
I don’t think I’ll be listening to anything else by this writer.
The narration was pretty good and I’d listen to other books they narrate.

Too much sex not enough story
Reviewed: 04-29-18
Would you try another book from Christine Feehan and/or Jim Frangione?
Usually I enjoy Christine’s stories and I always enjoy Jim’s narration
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
This story had waay too much sex in it and some of it wasn’t very sexy. Don’t get me wrong, I love sex in the books I listen too. In fact, I kind of insist on it. But it needs to enhance the story and not take place of the plot. Not all of the sex was hot. Some of it was kind of on the nasty side. Feehan had set herself up for a great story but she never capitalized on it. Actually, closer to the end, when the storyline kicked in some it was much more enjoyable. I wish she would have done that throughout. But for some reason she wanted to write a story that bordered on porn without plot.
Any additional comments?
I don’t think I’ll continue on with this series if the storyline is going to continue to be an after thought.

Story
The most beautiful man I've ever seen is the same one who can ruin everything. The first time I lay eyes on Callan Walker, I know he'll be trouble. With his smug grin, hot Aussie accent, and thousand-dollar shoes, he's just the kind of rich guy who always gets what he wants. And he wants two things: a night of sin, and my cooperation as he outmaneuvers his powerful mother to take control of his uncle's estate. I can't afford either one. I'm the only thing standing between my little sister and the foster care system.

So when there’s a teeny tiny case of mistaken identity, for once she decides to do the “wrong” thing.

Has plot issues
Reviewed: 04-17-18
Would you try another book from M. Malone and/or Eva Kaminsky?
Eva is a great narrator.
Any additional comments?
The story has plot issues and the writing needs better editing. Too many sentences start with pronouns and there is a lot of repeated words.
I usually have no issue with suspending disbelief but the storyline has to at least be plausable unless it’s PNR or UF.
The initial conflict that throws the couple together is completely stupid. In the real it just doesn’t hold water and simply doesn’t happen the way it’s set out in the story. The solution to the issue is improbable too.
The breaking issue is a reach at best. The coming back together at the end is rushed.
In the end, this is a 3 star story.

Manning and I have what happily ever after is made of.... A home he built us on the unshakable foundation we fought for. A life of laughter carved out of heartache and betrayal. A love story to stand the test of time. But between a trust that can’t be broken, joy that can’t be bridled, and passion that would scorch the sun, the empty spaces are becoming more and more difficult to ignore.... Fears that keep Manning up at night as he slips from our bed. Our complicated relationship with a man he respects, and one I don't know how to forgive.

Under ordinary circumstances, Oakley Ford and Vaughn Bennett would never even cross paths. There's nothing ordinary about Oakley. This bad-boy pop star's got Grammy Awards, millions of fangirls, and a reputation as a restless, too-charming troublemaker. But with his home life disintegrating, his music well suddenly running dry, and the tabloids having a field day over his outrageous exploits, Oakley needs to show the world he's settling down - and who better to help him than Vaughn, a waitress trying to help her family get by? The very definition of ordinary.

What did you like best about this story?
Great story. Great narrators
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I loved how I had a love hate relationship I had with Thomas. For most of the book I wondered how he’d be redeemed and worried what about the damage he was doing to Layla.
Any additional comments?
I really thought the last full sex scene did a disservice to the story. Though I understood some of the motivation for it, I felt it was more for the salicious aspect than furtherance of the story. Otherwise, I felt the sex scene were piviotal to the storyline.

Totally looking forward, though with some sadness. For the end. I really hope we get to see the first, and only, vampire baby in last book.
