The Florentine Deception by Carey Nachenberg is a fast-paced technothriller that had me listening nonstop. It is such a joy when the right narrator reads the right book, and Nick Podehl really did a fantastic job with this one. One of my favorite things about the book was the way it was written – the author wrote a story that wasn’t bogged down with futuristic, unknown tech terms. It made it easy for me to read and enjoy without having to keep looking up words or feel like I’m lost. The story felt plausible, which is what makes it great. Alex is easy to like and you want to be right by his side in figuring this one out. While I was listening, I kept thinking that this would make an awesome action movie – one I would totally go see! The Florentine Deception is an exciting read that will keep you up past your bedtime to find out what is going to happen.

Would you listen to Murder of a Small-Town Honey again? Why?

I would. I enjoyed the story and I would like to listen to it again before I listen to the next book in the series.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Skye is definitely my favorite character. I like her personality and I like her as the sleuth in this series.

Have you listened to any of Christine Leto’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not listened to this narrator's other performances. However, I thought she did a really good job with this performance, so I would be happy to listen to more that she has narrated.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No particular 'moving' moment. This book was about the mystery and there weren't any exceedingly emotional moments.

Any additional comments?

This was a solid read from beginning to end. I enjoyed the town of Scumble River and getting to know Skye and the other characters. I liked it and I will read more in the series. The narrator did a nice job.

What made the experience of listening to The Dangerous Book for Demon Slayers the most enjoyable?

The story is very well written and the narrator does a fantastic job of portraying all of the characters.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Dangerous Book for Demon Slayers?

It's hard to choose just one moment. One of my favorite things about this series is always the first chapter or two. Angie Fox really packs a punch at the beginning of the book that makes you want to keep reading.

Which character – as performed by Tavia Gilbert – was your favorite?

Lizzie! Tavia really brings her to life. She has the voice spot-on to what I believe Lizzie would sound like.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The Dangerous Book for Demon Slayers - Because Demon Slaying is Not for the Weak Hearted

Felony Fruitcake by Linda P. Kozar is the 5th book in the When the Fat Ladies Sing cozy mystery series, and it is a short holiday novella. Lovita is off on her honeymoon, and Sue Jan and the girls at the beauty salon are throwing their annual Christmas get-together. Sue Jan is on her own to solve the mystery of who tried to kill Bubba Bustalet with a deadly fruitcake brick.

I enjoyed this short holiday mystery. I think that you do need to have read at least one other book in the series to really understand and enjoy this novella. Sue Jan hunts down a few viable suspects at the local senior living facility. It seems that Bubba tends to be a bit of a flirt and a ladies' man, even at his advanced age. ;)

The mystery is quickly solved and Sue Jan, though she misses Lovita, is happy that she was able to solve a mystery on her own. There were quite a few suspects and the concept of the story was fun and light. This is a great, light cozy to listen to this time of year. If you have read or listened to other books in this series, you will enjoy this short mystery.

The narration really does a lot for the story. Michelle Babb has a talent for getting all the voices in Wachita just right. Her narration elevates the enjoyment in the story. It is easy to listen to and you know who is who without any difficulty.

I received a copy of this audiobook from the narrator for an honest review. This did not influence my opinion of the book in any way.

I listened to the audiobook of Dead As A Doornail by Linda P. Kozar (narrated by Michelle Babb). It is the third book in the When Fat Ladies Sing series. This is the first I've read in this cozy mystery series but that didn't stop me from understanding the story line, following along with the characters and enjoying the mystery.

Lovita and Sue Jan are best friends and they own a beauty shop together. Lovita is planning her wedding to Hudson, while Sue Jan and her husband Monroe (who is running for mayor) are building their dream house. A bunch of craziness ensues when Monroe is accused of murdering the contractor working on their house; Sue Jan's redneck relatives show up and park their trailer on Lovita's land; and the high school band's money for their trip to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade is stolen.

This was a light and fun cozy mystery with a lot of different elements at play. I loved the small town drama. The narrator did a fantastic job of telling the story and it was very easy for me to differentiate between characters. She did male and female characters, some with Southern accents, even some with British and Asian accents and she did them all seamlessly. The narration really sold the story for me, and I think it made me enjoy it even more than I would have. There is a good bit of beauty salon talk and wedding details sprinkled throughout the story. I listened to this off and on and was able to pick up right where I was with ease and settle back into the story.

The little plot twists and turns throughout make this cozy something special. I am hoping to go back and listen to the earlier books in the series.

I received a copy of Dead As A Doornail by Linda P. Kozar (narrated by Michelle Babb) from the narrator for review purposes. This did not influence my review in any way and I was not required to write a positive review.

Almost Perfect by Diane Daniels Manning is a story that reaches right in to your heart and settles there. Bess is in her 70s and has spent a lifetime showing and breeding championship dogs. She has finally decided to sell everything and retire when her champion stud is stolen. Benny, a neighbor boy, who happens to be mildly autistic, has fallen hard for McCreery, and is very upset when he finds out the dog has been taken.

Bess and Benny form an alliance that at first seems like it won’t work, but it turns out to be an amazing partnership. They both see something in each other that other people don’t see. Working together, they decide to work toward the Westminster Dog Show.

I was interested by this story. I easily became invested in Bess, Benny and McCreery right away and wanted to know where the story would take them. Bess and Benny’s friendship was endearing. It was interesting to learn about the Westminster Dog Show (which takes place February 16-17 this year). It is something that I hadn’t known much about before listening to this book. I liked that both Bess and Benny were flawed in their own ways but didn’t let it limit them from doing what they wanted to do.

The audiobook narration was fair. There were times when I wasn’t totally sure who was speaking. Overall, the narrator did a decent job with telling the story. There were a lot of characters and at times the story felt like it was going back and forth between a few different story lines. I had to re-listen to a few parts to make sure I knew what was going on. The book did hold my attention and it was one that I wanted to see through to the end.

I received a copy of the audiobook for review purposes. This did not influence my opinion.

Okay…I’ve already read The Publicist Books One and Two (Shelf Life) and love, love, loved them. I totally jumped at the chance to review the audiobook version of The Publicist Book One by Christina George (which I received in exchange for a review). First, because I already loved the story. Second, I listened to the sample on Audible and loved the sound of the narrator. I was not disappointed. The narrator did a fantastic job of bringing Kate and all the other wonderful characters to life for me. Many of them sounded just like I pictured them! This was for sure a 5/5 story for me in ebook form, and I’d give the audiobook version even more stars if I could. Lisa knocked it out of the park, and I can’t wait to hear her read the next book in the series.

I think by now you know that I am a huge fan of Lars Guignard. I absolutely love the Zoe & Zak series, both reading the story and listening to the audiobooks. My older daughter and I both love Zoe & Zak’s adventurous spirits. We know when picking up a Zoe & Zak story that we’re going on a grand adventure and we’re going to enjoy every minute of it. Zoe & Zak and the Tiger Temple by Lars Guignard has been our favorite story so far. It was really exciting to listen to. We both enjoy the narrator. Lars has a writing style that makes the story feel genuine. If you love brave little heroes and fun adventures, this series is one you need to read or listen to (or both!).

Blown Circuit by Lars Guignard is the second book in his thrilling Circuit Series. I thoroughly enjoyed the first, Lethal Circuit, and couldn't wait to continue Michael's story in Blown Circuit. Lars Guignard has written another fantastic spy thriller. The action and adventure never stop! Michael is an enjoyable character and I am glad his story is a series. Blown Circuit has a different narrator than the first book in the series. I think that Russell did a great job narrating the story. It felt smooth to listen to and he easily transported me into Michael's world.

Blown Circuit by Lars Guignard is a well-written thriller. The narrator tells the story perfectly. Well worth the read, and definitely the listen. :)
