Story
When Annalee Ahlberg goes missing, her children fear the worst. Annalee is a sleepwalker whose affliction manifests in ways both bizarre and devastating. Once, she merely destroyed the hydrangeas in front of her Vermont home. More terrifying was the night her older daughter, Lianna, pulled her back from the precipice of the Gale River Bridge.

What’s going on with the narration?

I’d love to like this story but why does the narrator speak in. halting sentences like. there is. a period after. every 3 words?
Shelving this after only 2 chapters.

I feel like I've been listening to this book for days and there are still 8 hours left. This book is incredibly slow and I keep waiting for something, anything to pull this story along.
Disappointed 😕

Story
The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying. And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

Story
Like his father before him, Arthur Winthrop is the Headmaster of Vermont’s elite Lancaster School. It is the place he feels has given him his life, but is also the site of his undoing as events spiral out of his control. Found wandering naked in Central Park, he begins to tell his story to the police, but his memories collide into one another, and the true nature of things, a narrative of love, of marriage, of family and of a tragedy Arthur does not know how to address emerges. Luminous and atmospheric, the novel is part mystery, part love story and an exploration of the ties of place and family.

Fascinating

Fascinating story - I just couldn't "put it down"! I liked the way the characters seemed so innocent but spoke so honestly and vulgar at times. made them feel very relatable.
my only complaint is the voice of Arthur. the way he draaaaws out every word makes him sound like an exaggerated movie trailer narrator (think, "in a woooorld...")
